Larian "don't know" what their next game is yet, but it won't be Baldur's Gate 4, or Baldur's Gate 3 DLC

Larian Studios has enjoyed widespread success with both Divinity: Original Sin games and, of course, Baldur’s Gate 3, and it’s no coincidence that all three had lengthy and successful early access periods. And though there isn’t much clarity yet on what the studio’s next game will end up being (other than the fact that it won’t be related to Baldur’s Gate or Dungeons and Dragons), it’s also likely to release as an early access title before getting its global launch.

It’s odd to think back on a time before Baldur’s Gate 3 - and even stranger to think that the sprawling Dungeons & Dragons RPG was actually kicking around for a long while before its 1.0 release blew up awards shows, social media feeds and fan-fiction hubs last summer. Putting the game out into early access at the end of 2020 - multiple years before it was ready for a full release - worked out very well for Larian though, so it’s maybe no surprise that they plan to do exactly the same with whatever comes next.

Baldur's Gate 3 fans are showering Larian Studios with praise following its kind donation of a copy of the game to a local library. The studio surprised a librarian with its generosity, and now gamers who may not have had a chance to play Baldur's Gate 3 will be able to borrow it.

Don't Nod, once the developer best known for the quirky adventure game Life is Strange, has seven games in development, four of which remain unannounced. With releases like Vampyr and Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden under its belt (and more on the way), it's clear that the company has larger publishing ambitions, wants to become a real player in a specific economic space, and is reorganizing accordingly.

Amazon’s TV adaptation of the Fallout video game franchise is taking a fresh approach to its source material. Rather than rework an existing storyline from one of the games — or multiple games — it will tell an original story. That means longtime Fallout fans won’t already be spoiled on Fallout, the way that fans of another ambitious video-game-to-TV adaptation, The Last of Us, were.

Glass Cannon Unplugged have just launched their Kickstarter campaign funding Don’t Starve: The Board Game.   We've seen plenty of the best board games come out in the past few years but Kickstarter-funded tabletop adaptations of video games are really having a moment right now. It was just last month that Glass Cannon Unplugged announced they were working on Dying Light: The Board Game, adding that to their expansive portfolio of board games like This War of Mine: The Board Game and Apex Legends: The Board Game (which we were very fond of when we previewed it). Gameplay wise, Don't Starve: The Board Game promises to be chock-full of "mechanics highlighting player choice, dynamic combat, and open-world exploration in night and day conditions". From the looks of the game’s box art and promotional materials, it also keeps that charming Tim Burton-esque art style that players have come to know and love. Turns out that expansions and add-ons are already on the cards too.

The developer of Baldur's Gate 3 may be done with the series and D&D as a whole, but it still has "two games that we want to make" and "lots of concepts" to explore.
