It has been some time since Kingdom Hearts 4 was in the news, but what some thought could be the first official look at the game in some time has emerged alongside the launch of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. An image shared on the game's official accounts to celebrate the wide release of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth ignited speculation about Sora's new circumstances in Kingdom Hearts 4.
Ever since Kingdom Hearts 4 was revealed back in April 2022, Square Enix has kept its cards close to its chest, showing little about Sora's further adventures despite fan impatience. In the meantime, speculation and hype has filled the void, with calls and theories abounding about everything from worlds themed after recent Disney animated movies to calls for the integration of broader Disney-owned brands like Marvel and Star Wars.
The latest drip in the trickle of Kingdom Hearts info came courtesy of a post made by the official Kingdom Hearts Twitter account. The post included an image of Sora from Kingdom Hearts 3 standing at a city intersection. A message in the corner of the image congratulates Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth on its wide release.
The image, which was taken from Kingdom Hearts 3, was mistaken by many fans to be a new image from Kingdom Hearts 4, igniting speculation. Some were excited at what they thought was a new look at Quadratum, the modern-looking city that serves as the setting of Kingdom Hearts 4. They noticed the stylized, alien text on the signs and billboards, and the clear visual references to actual locations like Shibuya's 109 department store. Others looked to the render of Sephiroth as a sign of his return to Kingdom Hearts after appearing in Kingdom Hearts 2 as a secret boss.
Some other commentators took a more measured response, reminding confused fans that the image isn't from Kingdom Hearts 4 but from Kingdom Hearts 3's secret ending, edited to show Sephiroth. They also pointed out that a Kingdom Hearts 4 image likely wouldn't show Sora with his Kingdom Hearts 3 design and proportions, rather than the more realistic, seemingly mature Sora of Kingdom Hearts 4. Finally, they reasoned that Square Enix wouldn't drop a major Kingdom Hearts 4 reveal in a throwaway congratulatory post for a different, unrelated game.
Despite the connections between the creative teams behind Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy 7 — least of all through legendary developer Tetsuya Nomura, who played key roles in the development of both series — it wouldn't be good marketing to tease Kingdom Hearts 4 in promotional tweets for a different, unrelated title. But even if the Twitter post has no real definitive connection to Kingdom Hearts 4, the excitement it stirred up speaks to the anticipation Kingdom Hearts fans have for the game, as

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth director Naoki Hamaguchi recently weighed in on the possibility of expansions for the Queen’s Blood card game in the wake of its popularity. Just like Final Fantasy 7 Remake before it, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth expands on the story of the 1997 original and includes many new side quests and bonus activities. Chief among them is Queen’s Blood, a card game that can be played in the lands beyond Midgar’s borders.
There’s a lot to love about Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, and its open world setting is surely high on that list. On top of being massive and incredibly varied across its many different regions, the entire map is also entirely seamless, which means you’re never hit with a loading screen when traveling from one area to the next (unless, of course, you’re fast traveling). Interestingly, however, according to producer Yoshinori Kitase, the game’s open world design wouldn’t have been quite so impressive if it hadn’t been developed as a platform-exclusive title.
Square Enix has released the launch trailer for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, which is out worldwide right now. But you don’t necessarily need to watch it – you’re good. After all, you’ve made it this close to launch without spoiling yourself, right?
Launched on February 29th worldwide, Square Enix’s Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth for PS5 received extensive praise from critics. Unfortunately, physical sales in the UK are down almost 30 percent compared to the launch of Final Fantasy 7 Remake per Gfk data shared by Games Industry head Christopher Dring on Twitter.
With Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth finally available for the PS5 almost four years after the first part, all eyes are now on the final part in the trilogy. Creative director Tetsuya Nomura confirmed development had begun in June 2022, while director Naoki Hamaguchi said last month that the script is making progress.
The producer of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth has revealed that he had to stop playing The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom while working on the latest game in the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy. With Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth recently wrapping up development, the producer has been understandably too busy with his own game to see Link’s adventure to its conclusion.
Final Fantasy VII Remake and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth are two masterfully made retellings of the classic PlayStation RPG from 1997. Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is the second entry in the Remake project and continues where the previous title left off, hopefully bringing answers to questions posed with it. Not only is this new sequel a nostalgic experience for veterans of the 90s original, but Square Enix has crafted it to be another perfect spot for newcomers to join Cloud and the gang.
Final Fantasy VII REBIRTH, the second installment in the REMAKE project trilogy, has been released on PlayStation 5 today, letting players experience the timeless story in a new way. The RPG has also reached critical acclaim since reviews went live last week.
It’s finally here! Yes, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is finally here, and that means that gamers can FINALLY continue the story of Cloud, Tifa, Aerith, Barrett, Red XIII, and the new friends they’ll make along the way as they travel through the world of Gaia and attempt to stop Sephiroth! Specifically, the leads behind this incredible remake title came together for one last “thank you” and a statement about the game’s launch and what it means to them to have this game out amongst players finally.
