A Joker 2 song by Lady Gaga has reportedly been revealed, and fans can’t wait to hear the track because it might give birth to an iconic sequence between the leading characters.
Joker: Folie à Deux director Todd Phillips surprised everyone by revealing that the sequel to the 2019 Oscar-winning movie will be a musical. Although fans were skeptical about the project, the decision to cast Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn made things interesting. The singer is known for her powerful voice and hard-hitting lyrics, so it doesn’t come as a shock that people were desperately waiting for an update on what could be expected from the film. And if a recent scoop is to be believed, then the title Joker 2 song or track written by Gaga may have been spoiled.
A recent update from DC Film News on X reportedly unveiled the name of aJoker 2 track written by Lady Gaga. The track was seemingly added to Lady Gaga's BMI account. According to a photo posted on the social media platform, the track is titled ‘Harvey and Joker Waltz’ and was written and composed by Germanotta Stefani, Lady Gaga's real name. Although no further details have been given in the post, the image shows Warner Music as one of the publishers. It's unclear if the track is a song or a piece of the original score with contributions from Lady Gaga.
Folie à Deux likely refers to a shared delusional disorder, hinting at how the Joker and Harley Quinn are drawn together. So, providing a grand musical score with several original songs could distinguish the sequel from the first film. Another thing that would distinguish the movie is how it won’t be a part of the Elseworlds franchise. Recently, James Gunn confirmed Joker 2 won't have the Elseworlds brand, which will be introduced in 2025. His comments came almost 11 months after the director mentioned that The Batman: Part II and Joker 2 would be the first two movies in the Elseworlds franchise. Gunn's answer hinted that fans need to wait for the release of Superman: Legacy in theaters to learn more about the Elseworld branding.
Joker 2 will be the only live-action DC movie released this year, and Gunn likely hopes it's a roaring success so that fans will be more optimistic about the upcoming DC Universe. Although there’s a lot of anticipation among fans, Phillips and the team face the challenging task of surpassing the success of the original 2019 movie, which became the highest-grossing R-rated film ever, earning $1.074 billion. Fans must wait to see how the additional musical elements will make the Joker 2 better than the first one.
Joker: Folie à Deux is scheduled to hit theaters on October 4, 2024.
