Following a week in which said that his future as Aquaman didn’t look too good, the actor delivered a heartfelt speech thanking fans for their support ahead of a screening of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.
Ahead of the screening (via Twitter user TheEricGoldman), Momoa and director James Wan spoke briefly about the film. Amidst rumors of his future as Aquaman in the DCU, the actor said that “this might be the last time” that he and Wan were up on a stage together.
He then spoke about what the 12 years of playing Aquaman has meant, and how thankful he was for those at Warner Bros. Discovery — including new DC Studios co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran — for letting him do what he wanted to do with the movie.

For months, rumors of Momoa potentially leaving the DC Universe or even switching up roles and stepping down as Aquaman to play Lobo have been floating around. DC Studios co-head Peter Safran spoke about Momoa’s future earlier this year, saying that he expects Momoa will have a place in the DCU “for many years to come,” whether it be as Aquaman or someone else.
Momoa himself also hinted at a possible shake-up at the beginning of the year, saying that he would “always be” Aquaman, but may play other characters in the future. He also confirmed that he had met with Warner Bros. Discovery and had “great news” to share at some point.
