International Game Developers Association calls for studio leaders to do more to protect jobs

Revolutionary RPG Baldur's Gate 3 was the surpise hit of 2023; a confluence of contributing factors that led to Larian's creating a once-in-a-generation level experience. But Larian has left the building, moving onwards and upwards, and ultimate IP holder Hasbro has already made a $1 billion bet on internal game development.

Hasbro has already invested over $1 billion in its internal studios as part of an ambitious long-term strategy, according to Wizards of the Coast head of game studios and publishing Dan Ayoub.

Last year’s Assassin’s Creed Mirage was very much a back-to-the-basics moment for Ubisoft’s flagship franchise, opting to have a smaller world with a gameplay loop focused on stealth and parkouring, rather than the RPG mechanics that the series has become known for. As we step up to recognise Earth Day 2024 – the 50-year-old global event that seeks to highlight issues affecting our climate, oceans, and planetary peace – not-for-profit organisation PlanetPlay wants to help game studios and players make meaningful change.

According to everyone’s favorite dataminer Billbil-kun, the next two free games coming to the Epic Games Store are Industria and Lisa: The Painful Definitive Edition. The titles will be available from April 25 until May 2 and will replace The Big Con and Town of Salem 2.

Sony is said to be readying a Pro version of the PlayStation 5, a more powerful variant of its current-generation console. While the Japanese electronics giant has not yet confirmed the existence of the PS5 Pro, multiple leaks from credible sources have detailed the improvements coming to the console. Newly leaked documents have outlined the specifications for PS5 Pro, suggesting an upgraded console with vastly improved ray-tracing performance in demanding titles.
