Intel Lunar Lake CPUs are headed to thin & light laptops later this year but it looks like their availability will be limited at the start.
Intel's next-gen Lunar Lake CPUs will be the follow-up to Meteor Lake "Core Ultra" chips and will be hitting retail in late 2024. The CPUs have a lot to talk about such as new CPU cores, new GPU cores, faster AI performance, and unique SoC designs which have been previously detailed here.
Following are some of the features of Lunar Lake CPUs:
For those waiting to get a new laptop, Intel Lunar Lake CPUs aim to be a very competitive product with the blue team referring to higher performance per watt, efficiency, and faster AI performance to hype up its upcoming product. However, it looks like the mass market will have to wait till 2025 to get their hands on these brand-new laptops as reported by Golden Pig Upgrade on Weibo.
The leaker and hardware insider is known to keep a good tab on the latest mobility developments and has been correct on countless previous occasions. This time it is reported that Intel will be following the same EEP (Early Enablement Program) as it did with its Meteor Lake lineup.
The EEP initiative is to enable certain OEMs and markets to have access to the latest CPUs much earlier than the rest to meet launch deadlines and market readiness. We saw this with the Meteor Lake CPUs which were available in limited supply at launch but are now available in decent quantities though Raptor Lake (Refresh) CPUs still make up for the bulk of laptop products.
With Lunar Lake, Intel is expected to fast-forward the release time of Lunar Lake CPUs so basically, you are going to get a paper launch with a few key products with the actual volume aiming for 2025 which is when the rest of the Arrow Lake mobility CPUs become widely available too. The EEP plan also restricts certain CPUs to certain projects.
We saw with Meteor Lake that the primary focus was to push for laptops before entering the Mini PC and handheld segment. These two markets are a key focus for Intel in the long run as it has seen the potential of both of them thanks to continued developments from AMD in enabling a robust, rich, and vibrant ecosystem for small form factors &
