Insomniac Games Has Made Just $567 off Sunset Overdrive

A slide allegedly taken from a Sony presentation has revealed how many units some of the company's biggest first-party games have sold.

has released a statement about the cyberattack that took place earlier this week and ended up leaking sensitive details and the personal information of several employees.

Insomniac Games suffered one of the biggest leaks in gaming history, with over 1.3 million stolen files made public earlier this week. In a recent statement, it feels “both saddened and angered about the recent criminal cyberattack on our studio and the emotional toll it’s taken on our dev team.”

Insomniac Games has released an update in response to the recent cyberattack that impacted the studio. 

While Insomniac has recently been making bank on their Marvel’s Spider-Man games, the studio has had some recent struggles with some non-Marvel games.

Undisclosed sales figures for a number of first party PlayStation titles have leaked following Insomniac Games’ recent data breach, from Days Gone and Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart to Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Bloodborne.

Details of Insomniac’s future games have been released onlin amidst a major data breach at the company, revealing further games based around Marvel characters, timing of the next Ratchet & Clank game, and when the studio will next look to build out a new IP.

Wolverine PS5 gameplay footage and internal data of countless Insomniac Games employees have leaked online. The ransomware group Rhysida has followed through on its threat to release 1.67TB of confidential data, after publisher Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) refused to meet their demands of paying 50BTC or $2 million within a week. The group also claims to have leaked 98 percent of the data, while the remaining two percent was sold to undisclosed sellers — it's unclear what those files contain. Videos have begun circulating online, featuring raw gameplay accompanied by animated storyboards, concept art, locations, the general plot, and a targeted release window of 2026.

Sunset Overdrive may not have enjoyed the sort of universal, mainstream critical and commercial success that developer Insomniac Games would go on to enjoy with its Spider-Man games, but in spite of its relatively lower-profile nature, it had its own dedicated fanbase- one that has been holding out hope for a sequel for nearly a decade at this point. And as it turns out, a sequel was indeed in development at Insomniac once.

The recent Insomniac ransomware leak has been an eye-wateringly large scale one, revealing details on a number of upcoming titles planned for the next decade or so – from Spider-Man games and an X-Men series to a new Ratchet and Clank instalment and a new IP – as well as undisclosed sales figures for previously-released titles like Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales. Alongside that, much more recent sales figures for Insomniac’s latest release have also emerged.
