A fan-favorite setting for a war FPS has been realized in Battlefield 2042 with a player designing a custom game mode modeled after Vietnam. The Vietnam-inspired map is available via Battlefield 2042's Portal game mode and can be used for multiplayer matches.
The Battlefield Portal mode, a part of Battlefield 2042, enables players to tweak gameplay presets and create custom multiplayer game modes with their own weapons, vehicles, maps, and more and share them with the community. There's notable room to experiment for users with the mode featuring maps from previous Battlefield titles. Over the years, creative fans have built intriguing game modes, such as one that gave Battlefield a Call of Duty: Warzone-like makeover.
In a popular Reddit post, user OzMaister shared an action-packed clip of a custom game mode, titled «Vietnam Rush,» curated in response to the highly popular Vietnam setting in war games. The adrenaline-pumping video depicts players facing off against each other on a lush green map with marshy, uneven terrain. Moreover, the map features patches of tall grass throughout, offering plenty of hiding spots, and also sports several identical wooden houses.
Apparently, this custom game mode was built using the Rush preset in Battlefield 2042, which revolves around players taking the role of attackers or defenders and requires them to destroy or protect multiple stations throughout the map, respectively. According to the OP, the custom game mode is available for players to try using the code, "ABQHW3." In the comments, several players praised OP's Vietnam-inspired mode while criticizing the developer's underwhelming support for Portal, which arguably holds the potential for paving the way for more such custom modes. A user called the Portal mode «a missed opportunity» and further added, «The concept and mode is awesome but EA/DICE is not giving it the updates it deserves.»
Reminiscing about Battlefield 2042's launch in 2021, there are more negatives than positives that come into mind. Due to the game being riddled with issues at launch, it received overall poor reviews from fans and critics alike. Within months of rolling out, Battlefield 2042 saw its player count plummeting sharply as the game started falling out of favor. As a result, it eventually ended up being one of the more forgettable entries in the otherwise popular Battlefield franchise.
