There’s been much hand-wringing among the PlayStation fanbase about Sony’s reported obsession with live service games, but two of its upcoming titles – Rise of the Ronin and Stellar Blade – are single player centric, and unashamedly old-school in their design. We spoke to Korean developer Shift Up, who’s currently working on the latter title, about its approach to the title – and it stressed that traditional single player campaigns with definitive endings are still extremely important.

While you are always in a server with up to 20 other players, you never know who those players will be, which is where forming a group comes in handy. Thanks to Skull and Bones being a crossplay game, the only limiting factor to playing with some pals is knowing how to do it, which is where we come in.

What’s up with the 'toxicity' around Cities: Skylines II?

Cities: Skylines II developer Colossal Order has a uniquely close relationship with its community. The original Cities: Skylines came out in 2015 and gobbled up the audience that was left behind by EA’s SimCity, which came out in 2013 and was a busted mess. Cities: Skylines scratched that urban-planning itch, plus it cost just $30. The game came first to PC, Mac and Linux with modest hardware requirements, and it hit consoles within two years. Critically, Cities: Skylines also supported mods through the Steam Workshop, allowing players to add their own tools to the game and share those features with others.
