Holstin was announced a little while back, but this showing from the recent Day of the Devs showcase caught our eye. This game is an indie survival horror with a retro presentation style and a seriously cool camera gimmick.
Set in 90s Poland, Holstin is a game that combines story, puzzles, and action as you deal with the nasty goings on and explore the world. The game's best trick, though, is how it changes perspective; most of the gameplay will be viewed from an isometric view, but when you're in combat and aim your weapon, it'll transition smoothly to a third-person, over-the-shoulder style, allowing you to deal with imminent threats up close and personal.
Inspired by Resident Evil and Silent Hill, it looks really interesting, but obviously, this one cool idea can't carry the whole experience. We're curious to see whether Holstin is able to provide a good story on top of its neat presentational ideas. It's coming to PlayStation when it launches, but we don't have a date just yet.
What do you think of Holstin? Turn on the lights in the comments section below.
Having grown up alongside PlayStation, Stephen has developed an eclectic taste in video games and a wide knowledge of the medium, from small indie gems to the biggest AAA blockbusters. Ever hopeful that the Burnout series makes a miraculous return.
The asymmetric camera system has such a unique effect on space and environment in a game, specially a horror themed one. This looks very promissing. Also loved that they are going with their mother language for the dialogues between characters in the game.
I remember seeing this one this summer. Definitely has me interested.
Wow. Look amazing and beautiful. Horror game is my cup of tea. Definitely will keep an eye for this
Looks really unique. Very interested in this.
This looks awesome, to be honest.
Oh yeah, this looks and sounds super cool!
This also reminds me that I need to finally get around to playing SIGNALIS on my Switch sometime soon.

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is one of the biggest games of the year, and we were big fans, even if it didn't stray enough from the established Insomniac formula for our taste. Still, it seems we weren't the only ones surprised to find that, despite being nominated in seven separate categories, Sony's latest PlayStation exclusive didn't bag a single statue at The Game Awards.
Fortnite's Festival is already set to corner the rhythm market by install base alone, introducing a Rock Band-like experience into Epic's ongoing everything game. In addition to LEGO Fortnite and Rocket Racing, it's clear that Epic's plans for total digital domination are close to coming to fruition.
As is a yearly tradition on the Push Square forums, the Official 2023 Screenshot of the Year Competition is now taking entries! After many years of service (thank you), veteran user @RogerRoger has passed the bat over to @Ralizah, who along with @HallowMoonshadow and @AgentCooper, will judge the finalists in three categories.
This week’s WAYP is coming in hot, so forgive us the brief pre-amble. We’ve got a lot of responses from the team this time, though, so let’s get straight into it.
We reported previously how Sony had requested sales data group Circana to log PS Portal as its own platform, and now we have the results for its debut month. According to analyst Mat Piscatella, the Remote Play streaming unit was the fourth best-selling system of November, putting it behind the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch.
Embracer Group has made good on its promise, deciding the fate of UK-based TimeSplitters developer Free Radical Design after a consultation process that concluded on 11th December. Or at least we have to assume so, the embattled company hasn't made an announcement or anything; Free Radical's website is simply gone, with a message left behind that reads: «404 Company Not Found [sad smiley face]»
You won’t find Rock Band Unplugged at the top of many Best PSP Games lists, but the Harmonix spin-off – released during the peak of plastic peripheral popularity – was one of the finest games you could find on Sony’s handheld during its pre-PS Vita renaissance circa-2009. A stripped-back version of the main console games, this portable reimagining saw you switching between instruments, completing “phrases” by rhythmically tapping buttons in time to the music.
Having officially entered our Fortnite Festival era, we're quite excited to see that the surreal pseudo-metaverse Epic has cooked up and is getting instrument controller support as soon as next month.
, the world's first 3D survival horror game that inspired an entire genre, is back with a modern adaptation that honors the original game's creepy roots. THQ Nordic is setting out to recapture the haunting and inquisitive gameplay of the 1992 game. The 2024 remake staring David Harbour and Jodie Comer has even gained the admiration and approval of the series creator, Frédérick Raynal, an excellent sign for survival horror fans.
Survival horror game Alone in the Dark has been delayed for a second time, to help developer Pieces Interactive avoid having to crunch on the game over the Christmas period.
We reported earlier in the year that Netflix had big-brain ideas for the oft-overlooked gaming arm of its business, and here’s the bombshell: the streaming subscription will add all three entries from Rockstar’s remastered GTA Trilogy on 14th December. While not strictly PlayStation news in the purest sense, this is a potentially disruptive announcement for sure.
