A jump scare has shown the horrors that lurk in the Settled Systems. While Bethesda's sci-fi RPG does have plenty of action and exploration at its core, there are some moments of horror throughout the game, particularly when fending off some of the alien life forms across the galaxy.
One such moment was captured by Redditor Murderware. During the side quest Operation Starseed, which sees players venturing to the Crucible cloning facility on Charybdis III following a distress call. This facility is swarming with hostile creatures, such as Spaceroaches, which are somewhat easy to kill, and a Maggotmaw.
As shown in Murderware's footage, they developed a false sense of security and turned their back on a queen Maggotmaw, which appeared to be slow or unmoving. As soon as they turned around, however, the creature was already upon them and killed them with one hit, with its speed and brutality creating an impressive jumpscare in a game with very few of them.
The comments below Murderware's post showed many others underestimated the Maggotmaw and paid the price, with some calling her «the toughest creature in the game» and wishing the Terrormorphs were as scary. They did, however, explain how to get through this situation, stating that she is a bullet sponge and can very easily kill players in a single hit.To escape the Maggotmaw queen, players must bait her to a choke point where she can no longer reach them. On a separate thread regarding the creature, pearljam18259 recommended repeated sneak attacks while Horizon_Thunder suggested retreating to the doorway players entered through quickly and attacking from there.
There are several other dark stories told throughout that add an element of horror to the sci-fi proceedings, with Terrormorphs hunting players through a facility, to ghost ships found adrift amongst debris with chilling recordings from its crew's final moments, to an entire sequence aboard the Colander ship which is a reference to the movie in which players even have to face a Xenomorph-esque creature called the Interloper upon its conclusion. Both of these missions play up players' anxiety as they are completely isolated aboard a spacecraft with no one to hear them scream.
These genre nods enrich 's universe with new threats around every turn, and the game is far better for it as they become some of the most memorable moments. While some serve as fun Easter eggs, the horror sequences also ensure that players never quite know what situation they're going to step into next, adding extra tension to the game.

One player has found a moon that represents what players were hoping for when they bought the game. Prior to its launch, one of the main selling points for was its 1000 explorable planets, with a mix of hand-crafted and procedurally generated environments across them. Unfortunately, upon its release, players complained outside of the set Points of Interest on a planet — which usually indicated explorable locations such as bases, labs, or outposts — that many of these environments felt empty, and that they would often have to jump back to their ship to enter another point of interest, rather than staying on land, due to each landing zone only generating a set radius of a kilometer or two in which they can explore before getting a "" message.
