Helldivers 2 developer Arrowhead has just about recovered from a disastrous weekend of controversy, following Sony's decision to make linking a PSN account to Steam to play the game mandatory. Among all the negative reviews, backlash, and apologies, Sony made the strange decision to delist Helldivers 2 from over 150 different countries in which the PlayStation Network isn't supported, though we're still not quite sure for what reason.
Even though the debacle is pretty much over, the countries that have seen Helldivers 2 delisted from Steam are still yet to get the game back, which is odd considering the PSN account links are now optional. It's all still up in the air at the moment, and one fan recently took to the game's official Discord to ask for an update on the entire situation. Unfortunately, there are no answers for the time being.
However, it does seem like Arrowhead CEO Johan Pilestedt is fighting for the fans with this one, as he responded that he "won't rest" until Helldivers is available everywhere once again, and that he's currently speaking with PlayStation and Valve to get the delistings undone. Of course, dealing with publishers as big as these means nothing gets done quickly, and Pilestedt admits getting account linking undone already took a "Herculean effort", so it sounds like we'll be waiting a little while for any more updates.
Thankfully, Sony's big mess hasn't really affected how Arrowhead operates, and the developer is taking all the shots fired at it in its stride. For example, the bond with the community is still very much intact, as Pilestedt recently put it to a vote whether releasing a Premium Warbond after the debacle was acceptable or in poor taste. It was eventually released as planned, but the communication with the community was appreciated.
It was also revealed that Arrowhead is working on adding a cape commemorating the game's brutal review bombing, which has slowly improved over the past few days thanks to Operation Cleanup. It's still very clear that the connection between Arrowhead and the Helldivers 2 hasn't been damaged by corporate meddling, and may it stand strong for years to come.
