Helldivers 2 pushes out PS5 patch to make "additional improvements to matchmaking"

Helldivers 2 developers Arrowhead have said they will be able to get back to working on future “improvements” for the superb bug-stomping, bot-blasting shooter after finally resolving the weeks-long server struggles caused by the game’s immense popularity.

A new patch has been rolled out for Arrowhead Game Studios’ third-person squad shooter Helldivers 2, which, amongst other fixes, aims to address the issue of inactive players taking up server space while not actually playing at all.

A new Helldivers 2 patch will kick players who are AFK for 15 minutes.

Following last week's long-rumoured announcement Microsoft is bringing four of its previously Xbox-exclusive first-party games to Switch and PlayStation 5, we've finally got official confirmation of the first two games making that multiplatform leap: Obsidian's historical narrative adventure Pentiment comes to Switch tomorrow, 22nd February, while inch-high garden adventure Grounded arrives 16th April on Nintendo's platform.

Baldur's Gate 3 released Patch 6 a few days ago, dubbed the "kissing update" (that infamously missed Valentine's Day). But it didn't just add new smooching animations, it also added a bunch of new bugs.

Helldivers 2 isn’t just blowing up like a traditional bomb – it’s becoming more of a nuclear blast. The game, developed by Arrowhead and published by Sony, is quickly establishing itself as one of the biggest third-person shooters on the planet – and it’s attracting the players to prove it. Despite being limited by server capacity, the title set a new concurrent users record on Steam overnight, topping a peak of over 255k.

Helldivers 2 developer Arrowhead says it has had to «cap» concurrent players to around 450,000 to «further improve server stability».

Helldivers 2 is awarding all players a 50 per cent XP and requisition bonus to compensate players for «a problem» that's preventing players from receiving the correct rewards at the end of missions.

In a blog post and podcast today, Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer made waves by confirming four Xbox exclusives will be going multi-platform. While he didn't reveal what those games would be, he did confirm a couple of games that won't be included in those four titles.

I suppose it’s appropriate that we get a Helldivers 2 patch on Valentine’s Day to address matchmaking. With the community lamenting disconnection issues, no doubt plenty are getting tired of the messy break-ups. Hopefully, today’s stability patch touches the hearts of all Helldivers 2 players.
