A Helldivers 2 player has suggested a change to the Flamethrower, which could make it a much more effective tool for spreading managed democracy. Helldivers 2’s Flamethrower is already rather overpowered against the Terminids, but this idea could make it even better.
The Flamethrower is a support Stratagem in Helldivers 2, which proves especially effective against the Terminid hordes. Players can call it in at a moment's notice, before wreaking havoc upon the battlefield. Like seemingly all the weapons in Helldivers 2, it seems to have been designed with fun as the number one priority above all else. As players continue to figure out the meta of the game, some weapons will prove more efficient than others. It's only natural in situations like this for players to suggest some ideas for how their own favorites can make it into that meta.
Redditor Error404-NoUsername- came up with the amazing suggestion to allow players to point their Flamethrowers downward while using the Jump Pack in Helldivers 2. As it works right now, the player automatically points it up into the air while using the Jump Pack, effectively removing any chance of burning an enemy. This suggestion would buff both the Flamethrower and Jump Pack, making them much more useful on the battlefield. Plus, it would undoubtedly look extremely cool in action.
Other gamers in the thread loved the suggestion, and even had further feedback on how it could be extended to more than just the Flamethrower. As of right now, the Jump Pack is purely used for movement, but if it were possible to accurately aim other weapons while in the air, it could become extremely powerful. However, it's entirely possible that this is something developer Arrowhead Game Studios has already considered. Balancing has been a big focus of Helldivers 2 updates so far, and it's possible that it might not want to make support Stratagems such as the Flamethrower and Jump Pack so overpowered.
So far, Arrowhead Game Studios has done a fantastic job of capitalizing on the success of Helldivers 2 and frequently updating the game with new content to keep the experience fresh. Recently, the Helldivers 2 CEO said no to a much-wanted customization feature. While this is definitely a stubborn approach, it also has to be applauded. The studio is making the game it wants to make, and anything that doesn't fit its vision won't be added. It's an approach that has certainly served the developer well so far.
