Helldivers 2 Has Sold Over 8 Million Copies, Estimates TD Cowen Analyst

It’s now been a few weeks since the Cutting Edge Warbond was released so of course fans of Arrowhead Game Studios’ sequel are wondering when the Helldivers 2 April Warbond release date will be.

Despite the controversy surrounding Tekken 8’s recent addition of the cash shop and Battle Pass, Bandai Namco’s sequel has done well. Before its launch, producer Katsuhiro Harada revealed that the series had sold over 55 million copies on the Game Maker’s Notebook Podcast.

According to developer and publisher Capcom, the recent open-world role-playing game (RPG) Dragon’s Dogma 2 has managed to surpass 2.5 million units sold worldwide since its March 22 launch.

Helldivers 2 has been nothing short of a revelation, having enjoyed critical and commercial success to degrees that even Sony or developer Arrowhead Game Studios would have dreamt. But even with all of its success, has it become one of PlayStation’s bigger properties? Johan Pilested – CEO of Arrowhead and director of Helldivers 2 – certainly hopes to see it get to that level one day.

The next title in the Mana series from Square Enix, Visions of Mana, is out this Summer. As the first mainline title in over 15 years, it offers vibrant visuals, a real-time combat system with new mechanics, and over 100 tracks. Various previews and details are available, including a new gameplay trailer, but the publisher also revealed sales numbers for the series.

A judge has ruled in favor of Sony regarding the massive $500 million lawsuit filed against the company several years ago. In a new Memorandum Opinion, a US District Court judge ruled that Sony did not infringe upon patented technology with its PlayStation controllers and consoles. Genuine Enabling Technology (GET) filed the lawsuit against Sony back in 2017, seeking a total of $500 million in damages for allegedly copying its patented technology.

With Ender Magnolia: Bloom in the Mist available for PC via Steam Early Access, Binary Haze Interactive also announced in a press release that Ender Lilies: Quietus of the Knights has sold over 1.4 million copies. Its last milestone was selling over one million copies as of February 2023.

After denials by Arrowhead Game Studios CEO and director Johann Pilestedt that Helldivers 2 has flying bugs—playfully dismissing it as propaganda by “bug sympathizers”—the studio boss has now acknowledged that “most bugs fly” and that the arrival of flying bugs was only ever a matter of time.

Sony has set up a new production line in Brazil, where it will manufacture physical PlayStation 5 game discs.

Helldivers 2 is the best-selling video game of 2024 so far in the USA. Full stop. Done. Accounting for both physical and digital purchases, Circana data places it at the top of the sales charts for both February 2024 and the year so far. The unexpected hit is said to have sold more than eight million copies, but that stat will have increased since. The PS5, PC title beat out competition from Final Fantasy VII Rebirth to land top spot for the month, though the Square Enix sequel did release on the final day of February.

Helldivers 2 has taken the world by storm ever since its launch in early February, so it’s no surprise that the game is continuing to top sales charts all over the world. Circana (formerly known as the NPD Group) recently released the data for software and hardware sales in the US for the month of February (via analyst Mat Piscatella on Twitter), and Arrowhead Game Studios and Sony’s co-op shooter has topped those charts.
