The rogue-like action of ends when you beat a run, but only one path you unlock is considered the ending of the game. As Zagreus ends up back at the House of Hades again and again, you learn how to better reach the surface toward a hidden truth. Only by reaching the surface many times will you reach a satisfying conclusion to the story of the Underworld's Prince.
Death isn't permanent if your run is interrupted by the enemies trying to stop Zagreus from escaping the land of the dead. The companions in that you meet along the way help build relationships that reveal more about why Hades works so hard to prevent his son from reaching the surface. You need to complete multiple runs to encounter the right people needed for the true ending.
Beyond creating a debate over definition that has spanned years, roguelikes are also staples in gaming. Here's the 10 best roguelikes right now.
Every run is divided into four regions Zagreus must travel past, each with a powerful boss blocking the way forward. As you overcome all odds and reach the surface, your path will always be blocked unless you defeat the final boss Hades, the ruler of the Underworld. After getting past his father, Zagreus will have an opportunity to explore Greece before his ties to the Underworld drag him back underground.
The first time you reach the surface, you'll encounter Persephone, the mother of Zagreus who was not aware of her son's existence. Zagreus swears to meet his mother again before falling ill and having to return to the Underworld, but you have to complete another run to see her again. The questions you get answered by Persephone each time you manage to find her all help you slowly reach the true ending in.
As you get back to the Underworld, Hades has placed a Pack of Punishment on the window Zagreus uses to escape. This can add modifiers to make the game harder and reset bounties for defeating each boss, so it may be worth using on future runs.
You have to complete ten separate runs to unlock all the dialogue leading to the true ending with Persephone. While you do have to overcome many challenges in each attempt to accomplish this, Hades will stand aside on your final run, letting you skip the final boss entirely. Make sure you have unlocked the weapon aspects in that will help you get past runs faster as you accumulate god Boons for a strong build for Zagreus.
Talking to Persephone for the final time will cause her to return to the Underworld, where Zagreus and her will meet with Hades for some touching dialogue. The final scene shows the family finally reunited and sailing back to the House of Hades through Charon while Orpheus and Eurydice sing a song welcoming their return. The credits then begin to roll, showing

We’ll never be as cool as Zagreus, the edgy prince of the underworld and star of Supergiant Games’ Hades. But, with this new collection of merch from SuperGroupies, we can sure as hell try. The recently announced lineup of premium fashion accessories includes a jacket, watch, and backpack all inspired by the Supergiant roguelike.
With the Xbox Games Showcase set for June 9th, followed by a [REDACTED] Direct, Activision has seemingly begun marketing for the next Call of Duty. A new teaser website called “The Truth Lies” is live, presenting an old CRT TV with multiple channels. There are two out of six available, the first seeing a group of mysterious individuals sneaking into a federal location.
Greek gods were known for their debauchery and antics, which is exactly why we have Hades 2 romance explained for you, lest you miss out on mythological mirth.
Assassin's Creed Shadows has finally been revealed, with more info surrounding the game now online to pore over until launch. There's still a lot we don't know though, including where in Japan the game is actually set. We know that the game's map will be about as big as the one in Assassin's Creed Origins, but fans now think that they've nailed down the area of Japan in which we'll be running around as Naoe and Yasuke.
As many an indie-game developer has already attested – Hades II’s stealth launch into Early Access caught a lot of people off-guard. But then why not start as you mean to go on? After all, surprise is one of the most important ingredients of a Roguelike. And when you’re making a sequel, springing such shocks becomes that bit harder.
Greek god pulverizing simulator Hades 2 is getting its first patch "later this month", say the developers. Two things are on their to-tweak list. First, something might change about the way resource gathering tools are used (the pickaxe you use to mine silver during a run, for example). Second, and perhaps more significant, is an upcoming change to the way Melinoë's dash and sprint work. We don't know exactly what that change is but, according to Supergiant, it has something to do with your witchy batterer's "distinct style".
It’s only been a month since Apple started allowing retro game emulators on the App Store and we already have our second bona-fide hit. The newly-released Gamma is a free PS1 emulator with plenty of bells and whistles for those looking to dive back into the world of blocky polygons. It joins the massively popular Nintendo emulator Delta. We have no idea why these apps keep getting named after the Greek alphabet, as both are made by completely separate devs.
Amazon Prime's Fallout TV show has inspired fans to flock back to the wasteland's radioactive monsters and even more radioactive insults, with many now celebrating Fallout: New Vegas and its… interesting dialogue.
Upcoming 2D roguelite The Rogue Prince of Persia has been delayed from its May 14, 2024 release date to avoid competition with Hades 2, which was released into Steam Early Access on May 6.
Role-playing musical Stray Gods is getting DLC in which you'll play as sorrowful ghostly rocker Orpheus, the developers have announced. You briefly meet Orpheus in the base game while playing as leatherclad muse Grace, finding him moping in the underworld, eyes dripping with glam rock mascara. In the DLC he makes a musical comeback on earth, alongside messenger god Hermes. I've not stumbled on Orpheus in the other mythical game of this season, Hades 2 (he showed up in the first Hades but there's no sign he's reappearing in the sequel). So it looks like fans of the ancient Greek sadboi will have to flock to Summerfall's expansion when it comes out this summer.
