The Pokemon Company always holds something special every few years, if not annually, called the Pokemon World Championships. Pokemon’s equivalent of DOTA 2’s The International, or Street Fighter’s EVO, is every bit a star studded and world renowned affair, if not even more so given the preeminent popularity of Game Freak’s and Creatures’ franchise.
However, one thing that The Pokemon Company always frowns upon is cheating, and 2023’s Pokemon World Championships was no different.
As reported by the Video Games Chronicle, a few players were disqualified from going forward in the video game tournament section of the Pokemon World Championships, because they had used hacked Pokemon.
Now, to be clear, if a player had come in using a Pikachu with a green afro, that would be obviously hacked from the onset and those players would not have even earned their tickets to go to the grand finals this year in Yokohama, Japan.
No, the hack here involves the use of rare or hard to acquire Pokemon. These Pokemon that the players used could be earned in the course of normal play. However, these players were caught using Pokemon that they caught using third party applications.
Ironically, the reason they were found out was the reason that they got so far in the first place. These Pokemon had the optimal stats for playing in the tournament, and the tournament organizers saw enough red flags in the Pokemon being used to check and disqualify these players.
Another tell was the region locking of certain Pokemon. Again, it was technically possible for Pokemon that were locked to the Japanese version of the game, for example, to be obtained by a player in Europe, but some of the players who showed up had Pokemon that were too high level to have been obtained that way.
Video Games Chronicle also reports that this indicates a change in how The Pokemon Company is monitoring and penalizing players for cheating in earning their Pokemon. This may lead to some players or teams bowing out of playing in the future. However, as you can see in the image above, The Pokemon Company won’t be lacking in finding champions.
As featured in the official Pokemon Worlds website, these players are the actual champions of this year’s Pokemon Video Game Championships. They passed The Pokemon Company’s screening, and still earned their way to win those coveted titles. And that’s the way Pokemon should be played.

The best menu screens in games can be articulated in many ways, just like the sheer amount of options you can get from the feature itself. In my mind, they’re determined by the music, the visuals, and how unique they can be. You don’t want to see a bland introduction to a magnificent game. Here are the top 10 best main menu screens in games, ranked.
The world of Pokémon media is expanding. A new, live-action Pokémon drama premiering this fall will focus on the impact of the game on a former fan’s life — not on the Pokémon themselves. The show will air in October in Japan, according to a tweet from Japanese TV company Tokyo TV, translated by Pokémon website Serebii.

Final Fantasy fans know that if they want to enjoy the franchise’s latest games, they typically need to be on the PlayStation platform. It’s essentially the go-to platform for Final Fantasy games these days. However, a big move happened not too long ago in which Final Fantasy 14 was finally making its way to the Xbox consoles. That’s not a new game by any means. This MMORPG has been available since 2010. However, now Xbox is finally getting this game on their platforms. Could this just be the start?
The UK's boxed games chart always shifts around whenever a big promotion takes place, and that's no different here. Sony's been pushing the PS5 and its games pretty hard the last couple of weeks, and it's brought back some bestsellers. LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga was number one last week, and it remains there now, selling most copies on PS5.
A question that many gamers have to ask when it comes to sequel titles is, “Did I need to play the previous game to understand everything?” The answer is “yes” for certain titles, but for others, it’s not really necessary. However, that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t want to play those past titles, especially if you can cash in on some sweet rewards they’re offering. In the case of Payday 3, if you’re getting that game and spent some time in the previous entry, Starbreeze Studios will reward you for your heisting. Just to be clear, these are some nice rewards they’re offering.
