George Miller wants to see ‘someone like’ Hideo Kojima make a Mad Max game

Replaced reminds of me a lot of Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2, in a good way. Ninja Theory’s latest was a visual spectacle with extremely cinematic combat and gorgeous setpieces that I won’t be forgetting anytime soon. While Hellblade 2 did that with Unreal Engine 5, Replaced is going to do that with pixel art.

The next Xbox Games Showcase is finally upon us, and it’s an important one for Microsoft. It needs to restore faith in Xbox as a brand in the middle of a tumultuous year that has been full of layoffs, studio closures, and the genesis of a multiplatform approach that had divided the fanbase. Thankfully, Xbox has a lot of neat-looking games coming later this year to show, including Avowed and Indiana Jones and The Great Circle.

Day of the Devs, a nonprofit games showcase that highlights hidden gem indie games, returned as usual this year with a slew of games. This year’s show included new looks at games from indie developers you might already be familiar with, including Grindstone’s Capybara Games, Furi’s The Game Bakers, Spelunky’s Mossmouth, and Road 96’s DigixArt.

This weekend will be full of new game trailers and content shown at Summer Games Fest and other gaming showcases, but don’t let the new announcements distract you from the great games that just came out. While the waiting time between new console game releases can seem to drag on forever sometimes, new games are always released on Steam.

June 2024 is shaping up to be a pretty great month for PlayStation players. Not only are we coming off an entertaining State of Play showcase, but a new Days of Play initiative surrounding all the video game showcases this month is bringing a lot of new PS Plus additions with it. Many of those games hit PS Plus this week, and three in particular stand out to us.

Microsoft will hold an Xbox Games Showcase and Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Direct. this Sunday. These shows will provide a much better idea of what to expect from Xbox over the course of the next year or two. That’s really needed right now, as Microsoft has struggled to keep online discussions around Xbox positive as it went multiplatform with some games, laid off thousands of developers, and outright shut down the developers of Hi-Fi Rush and Redfall. Based on leaks and my personal expectations for the showcase, there are three games you can play on Xbox Game Pass this weekend to prepare for the event.

Xbox has had a rough year. From the divisive reactions to its multiplatform plans to layoffs and the shuttering of lauded studios like Tango Gameworks, there hasn’t been much of a reason to be excited for Xbox recently. Microsoft is hoping to change that on Sunday as it will hold its annual Xbox Games Showcase to give us a glimpse at titles coming from its first-party studios and third-party partners over the course of the next year or two.

Every June, video game announcements typically take precedence over new releases. That said, there’s still plenty to look forward to this month, especially when it comes to new releases that build upon already existing games. Both Elden Ring and Destiny 2 are getting expansions, while Shin Megami Tensei V, Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon, and Monster Hunter Stories are all getting a new leases on life.

On Friday, we brought you word that Mad Max franchise director George Miller, on the red carpet for the premiere of his latest film, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, tipped Hideo Kojima as his ideal candidate to develop another video game adaptation. In doing so, it seems he also cast aspersions on the previous game to bear that name. The founder of Avalanche Software and creator of the Just Cause series, Christofer Sundberg, the developer behind the last Mad Max game, has since furiously fired back.
