Genshin Impact 4.0 Fontaine reveal livestream set for this Friday – here's how to watch

Genshin Impact’s hugely anticipated 4.0 update will release later this week, bringing with it the all-new Hydro region of Fontaine. Of course, the underwater city is not the only major addition, with two new characters available to recruit in the form of the magical double-act, Lyney and Lynette. Ahead of the latest content drop, developer HoYoverse has released a duo of trailers detailing the new arrivals.

Like all regions in Genshin Impact, Fontaine has several reward sources called a Shrine of Depths, locked gazebo-like structures that require a special, region-specific key to unseal. Getting the keys is easy enough, though it’s pretty time-consuming, and there are more keys than there are Shrines, as the Fontaine region will continue to expand as Genshin receives additional updates. We’ll cover where to find all of the currently available Shrines of Depths in Fontaine, as well as how to get every key, in this guide.

Lumidouce Bells are another character Ascension material unique to the new Fontaine region in Genshin Impact. While they are plentiful, the more characters that release who come from Fontaine, the more likely you’ll need to have a huge stock of Bells to get everyone to level 90. Thankfully, Lumidouce Bells grow in groups of three per plant, and where you can find them, there are almost always at least two. Like every other region in Genshin Impact, Fontaine has its own set of Sigil materials: Hydro Sigils. And like other Inazuma, there is a special location where you can deposit Hydro Sigils for a reward. It’s called the Fountain of Lucine. Thanks to Fontaine’s smaller landmass (made up for by the underwater sections), actually reaching the Fountain isn’t hard, nor is using it. You simply walk up and deposit your Sigils and reap the rewards. The harder part is getting Hydro Sigils, and we’ll discuss that in detail in this guide.

Genshin Impact has been updated to version 4.0 and there’s a lot of new content along with the usual bunch of bug fixes. There’s a new area, Fontaine, a new story, new equipment, and new characters Freminet, Lyney, and Lynette.

The Emperor of Fire and Iron is one of two new respawning world bosses in the Fontaine region of Genshin Impact, and finding and defeating it is the only way to get Ascension materials for the new 5-star character Lyney. You’ll need 46 mats in total, so expect to be farming the boss frequently if you manage to pull Lyney and want to max him out to level 90. The Genshin Impact 4.0 update is now live, meaning it’s time to explore the Hydro nation, Fontaine. But before stepping foot in the new area of the map, some fans have taken the time to look back at the anime game‘s progress over the past two years or so with a number of before and after screenshots. Every major Genshin Impact update changes the landscape of out-of-bounds locations, so looking back brings an incredible perspective on the game’s growth.

Developer HoYoverse (formerly known as miHoYo) announced the release of the Genshin Impact 4.0 update across all platforms. Titled 'As Light Rain Falls Without Reason', this patch adds the Fontaine area to the game; more specifically, these areas will be available to players: Court of Fontaine Region, Beryl Region, and Belleau Region.

Fontaine, Genshin Impact’s latest region, is a fantasy analog to France and is aligned with the Hydro element. And like all previous zones, it comes with its own Archon Quest revolving around Focalors, the androgynous Hydro Archon, the God of Justice. Known as the region of Justice, Fontaine revolves around the performances that make up its court systems, as well as its pristine waterways and secrets hidden beneath the surface. Players will only be able to enjoy a portion of the quest starting out, and there are some fairly steep Adventure Rank requirements to access it.

The Genshin Impact version 4.0 update goes live next week and, just like in previous regions, Fontaine will add a whole bunch of new gameplay mechanics to the anime game. One of the most interesting features coming in Genshin Impact 4.0 has to do with Fontaine’s unique energy sources — pneuma and ousia. They power the city’s machinery and can be utilized to gain advantages in combat, as long as you’re using one of the upcoming Fontainian characters.
