Fortnite fans think they've spotted some hints that indicate that Chapter 5 is actually a remake of Chapter 2, from the strange focus on Peely again to a mineral-based villain.
Just a few months ago, Fortnite fans were in for a time-travelling treat in the form of Fortnite: OG, a mini-season that brought things back to Chapter 1 and made us all remember the good old days of Victory Royales. Although Fortnite: OG ended at the start of December (with a return in 2024 already confirmed), some fans think that the time-travelling isn't quite over.
Over on the Fortnite: Battle Royale subreddit, one of the most popular posts over the past couple of days comes from Redditor MagiStarIL, who suggested that Chapter 5 is a remake of Chapter 2. That's a bold claim, but they did have some evidence to back it up, and it's pretty convincing.
The first thing that they point out is that we didn't actually time-travel back from the OG season when it ended, which means that we're technically at Chapter 2 on a different timeline now. This means that the general events are the same, but some things have been slightly changed around and altered by whatever Jonesy did in Fortnite: OG.
There are a few key examples of this. The first is a mineral-focused villain, with Midas in the original Chapter 2 and Montague in Chapter 5. Similar-sounding names aside, both villains can transform their bodies into different minerals, which seems far too similar to be a coincidence and likely an altered event.
It's worth noting that the Big Bang event seemingly resetting the Fortnite universe can be used as a way of explaining why things are so similar between the two chapters.
Another example of a villain being altered is Brutus, the large bodyguard figure from Chapter 2, who bares a bit of a resemblance to Chapter 5's Oscar, minus the whole tiger thing. This one is a little looser, but it's hard to deny some similarity between the two. Both chapters also prominently feature a yacht out on the water and a secret society with a gold logo, yet another strange thing linking the two together.
It seems that a lot of fans agree with this theory, as they even offered some of their own ways that the two Chapters connect, like Peely being involved in both storylines, and the shape of the Chapter 5 map even being reminiscent of Chapter 2. We'll likely have to see how the Chapter progresses to get the full picture, but the two are certainly very similar to each other right now.
