Fortnite Chapter 5, Season 2 will seemingly introduce flying mounts to the game, as originally leaked by dataminers and now teased by the official Twitter account.
We're just a few days away from the long-awaited release of the second season of Fortnite's fifth chapter and it looks like there's a lot to be excited about. It's already been confirmed some time ago that it's going to be themed around Greek mythology (as proven even further by the destruction of Pandora's box just a few days ago), which might also be introducing a new movement mechanic.
Dataminers have speculated for a while now that Fortnite would soon introduce some kind of flying mechanic, whether that be through an item or through special mounts, and it seems that's going to come to pass with the latest season. Over on Twitter, the official Fortnite Competitive account teased the new mechanic through a tweet saying, "You know how you can walk or sprint when competing? Let’s say you’ll be able to do something else...".
That's already pretty blatant about there being a new movement mechanic of sorts introduced in the Greek-themed season, but it's not the only hint towards it. Earlier this month, Epic Games vice president Mark Rein revealed this his word for Chapter 5, Season 2 is "Wings". Combine that with the tease shared by Fortnite Competitive, and it seems likely that wings are going to introduced as a new way to get around.
It's not currently clear whether the wings will be used for some kind of mount (like a Pegasus) or if they'll be an item that can be equipped to grant flight (like Hermes' shoes), but we do at least know that flying is going to be a part of the new season in one way or another. It could even be a default ability that all players have, although that would be a massive change to how Fortnite plays.
No matter how flying is introduced in Fortnite's new season, expect it to be a controversial mechanic, as previous movement changes like Spider-Man's web-shooters and Goku's Kintoun caused quite a stir when they were available.
Considering Fortnite Competitive teased the new mechanic alongside walking and sprinting, it is possible that flying will just be something that every player can do whenever they want. As great as that would be, it seems a little more likely at this point that it'll be a limited-time item that has to be found around the map.
