Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth's open world is inspired by The Witcher 3 and Horizon

Final Fantasy XVI director Hiroshi Takai revealed at this year’s PlayStation Partner Awards that two DLC episodes are on the way for the game.

The Last of Us Part 2 introduced a new location called the Seraphite Island in Seattle, Washington. As the Cordyceps outbreak first began to spread, the island's inhabitants cut themselves off from the rest of the city and rejected military aid, choosing to instead follow a so-called prophet, becoming the aptly named Seraphites.

The Witcher series hasn't been doing too well in recent years, routinely angering fans by straying too far from the source material, putting little effort into CGI and costumes, and replacing Geralt of Rivia actor Henry Cavill with Liam Hemsworth for future seasons. Cavill's departure was the turning point for a lot of fans, who have been rallying against the show ever since. Now, they have a new reason to be angry.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will continue the FFVII remake trilogy with a more open world-like design. To that end, Naoki Hamaguchi, one of the game's directors, admitted he took inspiration from Western games like CD Projekt RED's The Witcher and Guerrilla Games' Horizon.
