When it comes to passionate fanbases, you'll struggle to find many as passionate as Final Fantasy. Most of the time, that passion translates into amazing fan art, cosplay, music, and every other work of creative art you can think of. Unfortunately, it can also manifest into something rotten, as legendary Final Fantasy writer Kazushige Nojima recently complained about abuse he's been receiving on social media over the direction of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.
Earlier this month, Nojima tweeted about the abuse he's been getting over the years, explaining that while he's not phased by criticism of his work, he's getting increasingly frustrated by attacks on his person. Nojima states that he always wants to "protest and deny" the claims, and "curses anyone" who sends him abuse when he's just trying to tweet out a picture of his guinea pigs.
The response from Final Fantasy fans has been nothing but wholesome, as those wishing to defend Nojima have been rallying for the writer ever since. Their efforts have culminated in something pretty special, as Final Fantasy fans have now managed to get #ThankYouFFVIIDevs trending on Twitter, which is full of people expressing their love for Final Fantasy 7 and how much the game means to them.
Most of them are thanking Nojima for the characters he helped create, as well as the story of the original game, while also expressing excitement about Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth and the wild direction that it's more than likely going to go in. Some are even making fan art specifically for this campaign of kindness and sharing it on social media to help spread the word.
Final Fantasy 7 is obviously a title that means a lot to many different people, and it's nice to see so many people coming together to show the devs how much of an impact their work has had over the years and how much is still has today.
Now that the year is almost over, we only have just over a couple of months before Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth actually releases. The game's latest trailer finally gave us good looks at characters such as Cait Sith, Cid, and Vincent Valentine, as well as the reminder that Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will launch on February 29. Let's hope Nojima and the team has some wild surprises in store.

The Final Fantasy 14 Fan Festival is still ongoing in Tokyo, and while its next expansion, Dawntrail, has received tons of new details, a release date isn’t one of them. Producer/director Naoki Yoshida explained why on the first day, confirming that there’s an internal date but that the team wants to ensure it’s as “fine-tuned” as possible before sharing.
Despite the lack of a paid expansion since the launch of Endwalker, Square Enix’s critically acclaimed MMO Final Fantasy 14 is going strong with over 30 million players. Its last major milestone was 2022, with over 27 million registered players announced.
As the team that handles Final Fantasy 14, Square Enix’s Creative Business Unit 3 (or CBU 3) has a special place in the hearts of Final Fantasy fans, and in 2023, the studio also released its first mainline single player Final Fantasy game with Final Fantasy 16. Looking ahead though, what does the future have in store for the team? Apparently, it could be something entirely new.
Along with releasing the full trailer for Final Fantasy 14: Dawntrail, Square Enix’s Creative Business Unit 3 also has some trailers for the new Pictomancer Job and Female Hrothgar race. The Beastmaster is another new Job but arrives later in patch 7.0X.
Square Enix’s Creative Business Unit 3 is delivering lots of new content to Final Fantasy 14 with Dawntrail this Summer. Of course, fans can partake in plenty before that, like an upcoming crossover quest with Final Fantasy 16. It’s planned to go live in early April with patch 6.5X.
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is one of the most highly anticipated games of 2024, looking to be a stunning follow up to the first PS4 remake entry. However, just before its release, Apex Legends is hosting a crossover event, and fans are losing their minds over it.
Final Fantasy XIV producer Naoki Yoshida has revealed that many highly requested features coming after the launch of Final Fantasy XI: Dawntrail.
There are spoilers ahead for Final Fantasy 7 and Final Fantasy 7 Remake.
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is looking like its going to be a much more expansive game than its predecessor. Its main story alone is said to be around 40 hours long, while Square Enix says that with side content included, that can go up to over 100 hours. A lot of that is obviously going to be thanks to its vast, seamless open world setting, and speaking recently with Game Informer, the action RPG’s developers spoke a bit more about what that will bring to the table.
Unsurprisingly, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is going to continue to expand and recontextualize the original PS1 classic in more ways than one, from its seamless open world map to the content it will house to just how long the game will be. That, unsurprisingly, will mean added screentime and narrative content for a number of characters, among which fan-favourite villain Sephiroth will seemingly be one of the most prominent.
Since Final Fantasy 7 Remake launched in 2021 and given how events played out, everyone has had the same question regarding a particular character’s fate Speaking to Game Informer, director Naoki Hamaguchi and creative director Tetsuya Nomura talk about how the team approached. Spoilers follow for Final Fantasy 7 Remake and the original game, so be warned.
