A trailer for Final Fantasy 16's upcomingThe Rising Tide DLC has just been released, revealing a new boss fight against the legendary Leviathan. The latest mainline entry in the iconic Final Fantasy series launched last summer with a gritty, medieval tale set in the twin continents of Valisthea, which is divided into warring kingdoms that are represented by Eikons, Final Fantasy 16’s take on the franchise’s Summons. It is here that a fallen nobleman named Clive Rosfield embarks on a quest for revenge that soon becomes a battle to liberate Valisthea from the dark forces that oppress its people.
Final Fantasy 16 was a major financial success for Square Enix and developer Creative Business Unit 3 when it was released on the PlayStation 5 back in June, and it wasn’t long before two DLC expansions were announced. The first was Echoes of the Fallen, which was released during The Game Awards 2023 in December and saw Clive and his friends journey to uncover the secret behind a mysterious Mothercrystal and a new Eikon named Omega. During this week’s PAX East 2024 event in Boston, Square Enix showed off a new trailer for Final Fantasy 16’s The Rising Tide DLC that gave fans a closer look at its plot and gameplay. It begins with Clive and his allies investigating a prophecy surrounding the creation of a new Mothercrystal and a child sacrifice in the new region of Mysidia, where they encounter new enemies and unleash new magical powers. According to the developers on hand during the PAX East 2024 panel, Clive will take these new powers from Leviathan, which he can summon and launch at his enemies in strategic combos. At the very end of the trailer, Clive appears to take on an advanced, winged form similar to his Ifrit-powered Limit Break.
Final Fantasy 16’s developers went on to provide further details about The Rising Tide’s plot during the connected PAX East 2024 panel, revealing that Cliff will join forces with a new ally named Shula to rescue Leviathan’s Dominant from an unknown danger. However, judging from the end of the trailer, it appears that players
