After Square Enix made certain changes to its payment processor, some Final Fantasy 14 players reported that they were greeted with errors when attempting to make purchases or update their payment methods. While some Final Fantasy 14 players claimed that some workarounds allowed them to make their purchases, others took to social media and the game's forums to raise awareness.
The issue came as Final Fantasy 14 geared up to launch its highly-anticipated Dawntrail expansion. Set on the western continent of Tural, Dawntrail will begin a new chapter in Final Fantasy 14, following the conclusion of a decade-long saga from A Realm Reborn to Endwalker. Dawntrail will allow players to level their Jobs to 100 and introduce the Viper and the Pictomancer as two new DPS jobs for players to try. Fans of past Final Fantasy titles such as FF9 and FF11 will also be in luck, as Dawntrail will contain references to those two games throughout the expansion in various ways. Dawntrail is scheduled to launch on July 2, with early access for pre-orders starting on June 28.
While pre-orders for Dawntrail continue, some Final Fantasy 14 players reported issues with Square Enix's payment processor following a recent change. A Reddit user named perikahpi took to the r/FFXIV subreddit to post about their problems with theFinal Fantasy 14 Mog Station and Online Store. According to perikahpi, Final Fantasy 14 players that had a Visa credit or debit card, a Discover credit card, or a Mastercard issued by Capital One are currently unable to make any payments through the Mog Station and Online Store as the cards were erroneously listed as «unavailable» following the payment processor change. According to a Square Enix Lodestone post on April 5, the payment processor change was made on April 23 following maintenance on their storefront.
Although Visa, Mastercard, and Discover are among the accepted payment methods under the new payment processor, the issue currently prevents Final Fantasy 14 players from updating their subscription information and purchasing mounts and other Online Store items. However, perikahpi stated that some players temporarily got around the issue via Amazon Pay or the Microsoft Edge browser. Perikahpi added that a Square Enix support agent said that the company is working to resolve it, and asked players to wait at least a day or two before trying to use the affected payment methods again.
At the time of writing, Final Fantasy 14 had not made a Lodestone post about the payment issues. With a busy calendar of events ahead of Dawntrail, only time will tell when these payment problems will be resolved.
