Bethesda has announced that the long-awaited Fallout 4 upgrades for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S are coming out later this month on 25th April. PC, PS4 and Xbox One gamers will also see some benefits.
The free upgrades for the current generation of consoles will bring new Performance and Quality mode settings for the more powerful consoles, while also bringing improvements to stability and bug fixes. You’ll be able to enjoy up to 60FPS and increased resolutions thanks to these dev-made improvements.
We’ll have to wait and see how well it hits the new targets, but this is great news for PS5 players in particular, as Xbox gamers already had a 60FPS boost thanks to Series X|S backward compatibility – albeit limited to 1080p of the base Xbox One version.
Older consoles will get the improved stability and bug fixes, while PC will have new support for Japanese and Chinese language play, resolved issues for Bethesda.net logins, and fixed access to mods. The game will also now be Steam Deck verified.
Beyond that, Bethesda has prepared some new content for players. There’s a new “Echoes of the Past” quest that will explore The Enclave – the pre-war cabal that’s looking to gain a foothold in the Commonwealth – and there’s the following free new Creation Club items:
Then there’s the Makeshift Weapon Pack, which includes… unconventional weapons like a baseball launcher, a nail gun and a piggy bank, and some unseasonal new Halloween items with 38 new decorations that include witches, cauldrons, ghouls and more! Halloween in April? Why not!
Originally expected in 2023, the free upgrade is almost perfectly timed to coincide with the release of the Fallout TV show on Amazon. The big budget production has drawn plenty of plaudits already for its blend of story and action, as well as how it perfectly captures the visual style and tone of the video game series.
Tuffcub raced through the eight episode season of TV to deliver a quick verdict, saying that “Fallout joins the rather small pool of video games that have been successfully adapted in to other media. While it’s not quite up there with The Last of Us, it’s certainly much better than Paramount’s Halo television series. Fans are going to love the attention to detail, but it’s fundamentally a great story even if you don’t know your Pip Boy from your Bobblehead.”
