Endless Ocean Making a Comeback After 14 Years

During Nintendo's Direct Partner Showcase, the company revealed that Endless Ocean: Luminous will be releasing on Switch later this year. The game is a sequel to 2010's Endless Ocean: Blue World, which was published by Nintendo and released for the Wii.

Previous rumors indicated that Endless Ocean would be mentioned at Nintendo's Direct Partner Showcase, which generated excitement among fans who enjoyed the first two games over a decade ago. Endless Ocean is a scuba-diving exploration series that allows the user to freely roam an underwater world where they can encounter a wide variety of marine life and discover lost treasure. Fortunately for long-time fans of the franchise, the newest entry will introduce some major upgrades.

Endless Ocean: Luminous launches on May 2 for the Switch and is available to pre-order now on Nintendo's online store for $50. In Luminous, players will explore the Veiled Sea, a vast ocean that changes with every dive. The Veiled Sea will be filled with over 500 different species of marine life, some extinct and others mythical. The trailer reveals some of Luminous' extinct creatures, such as the Anomalocaris and Mosasaurus. Additionally, the newEndless Ocean will allow up to 30 players to dive together, will include other social features like emotes, and will allow users to share their underwater discoveries with others through an in-game UI.

Endless Ocean: Luminous' trailer suggests that the ever-changing sea will allow players to make new discoveries with every dive. Previous Endless Ocean titles featured underwater treasures that could be found and exchanged for huge amounts of in-game currency, so it seems possible that Luminous will feature rotating locations for these sought-after prizes. These treasures might be found in some of the man-made locations shown in the trailer, which include old, sunken ships and ancient ruins. The trailer also highlights the franchise's significantly upgraded graphics, which will likely help Endless Ocean: Luminous join its predecessors in ranking among the best underwater exploration games.

Nintendo made plenty more exciting announcements at its recent Direct Partner Showcase, including the surprise release of Penny's Big Breakaway, which is available now on Switch, PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. The 3D platformer is centered around its unique yo-yo mechanic, which allows the player to swing through an area or attack enemies.

After months of rumors, Nintendo also confirmed that Pentiment andGrounded will release on the Switch soon. The first-party Xbox titles will release for the Switch on February 22 (Pentiment) and April 16 (Grounded).
