Juggling subscriptions can be tricky, especially with so many options across TV, movies, video games, and more. Odds are many of you carefully select which ones you keep active, and if EA Play is one of the subscription services in your current rotation, it might be time to take a look at how much you use it. EA will be increasing the price of its subscription service starting in May. The price hike will apply to those who pay monthly and annually, and will also affect both the standard and pro tiers of EA Play.
News that EA Play's prices will be going up soon comes courtesy of Gamesindustry.biz. The site reported on Wednesday the publisher's subscription service prices will be increased from May 10, 2024, the changes being made to coincide with currency fluctuations and market value. If you're an EA Play subscriber, you should have received an email about the price changes and how they will affect you.
If you have the standard tier of EA Play and you pay for it monthly, your fee will increase from $4.99 to $5.99, and if you pay annually it will go from $29.99 to $39.99. The pro tier, which gets you access to every EA game on day one, will now be $16.99 per month (previously $14.99) or $119.99 per year (previously $99.99). The price changes don't appear to have affected Game Pass. The standard tier of EA Play is included with a Game Pass Ultimate subscription.
While Game Pass prices aren't going up, EA Play isn't the only studio with a subscription service to increase its prices recently. The monthly, quarterly, and annual fees for PlayStation Plus also went up recently. Prices for subscription services in the movie and TV world go up all the time. Odds are if you have Netflix, Disney Plus, Max, and Amazon Prime, at least one of them will have an announced price increase on its horizon at any given time.
If nothing else, EA Play's price increase should be a reminder to check what exactly you're signed up for and whether you're using the services you pay for. Many of us will have been guilty of paying for a subscription service we don't really use, possibly even forgetting we pay for it at all. If you pay for services annually, it's even more important to check in on what you're paying for. Check in time, and you might be able to cancel anything you don't use before it renews for another 12 months.
