Dreams And LittleBigPlanet Developer Media Molecule Suffers Layoffs

Another notable video game studio has been hit with layoffs. This time, Dreams developer Media Molecule has reportedly slashed around 20 jobs at the company.
According to GLHF, sources relayed to them that Media Molecule is cutting down the British company''s size from 135 people to 115. Employees at the LittleBigPlanet and Tearaway developer--which sits under the PlayStation Studios umbrella--were reportedly notified today about the layoffs.
Although specifics were not mentioned, Media Molecule did confirm it has made «the difficult decision to begin the consultation process for team members within certain departments of the studio.» There's no official word on how many roles will be impacted, though the studio noted, «Every single role that has been put at risk is delivered by someone who has contributed something special to Media Molecule. We will make sure those impacted receive the best support we can provide this process.» It also said Dreams' community will be supported «for the foreseeable future.»
This comes over a month after Media Molecule ended live support for Dreams. However, players can still make and share their creations with the PS4 exclusive. The developer has shifted resources to a new, unannounced project.
Dreams has been home to all sorts of neat creations over the years, such as a third-person dungeon crawler called Ancient Dangers: A Bat's Tale. A company also created an animated series named Noguchi's Bell within Dreams as well.
The video game industry has seen a string of major layoffs throughout the year. Epic Games cut almost 900 jobs last month. GTA parent company Take-Two confirmed layoffs earlier this year, and Embracer Group announced studio closures as well as layoffs in June. Earlier this month, Telltale Games was hit by layoffs as well, though the developer claims no projects were canceled.
