Dragon's Dogma 2 PS5 Demo Is Being Readied, Fans Reckon | Push Square

With the preview embargo lifting ahead of Dragon's Dogma 2's 22nd March release, the internet is awash with answers to our burning questions about Capcom's imminent action RPG. If that wasn't enough, courtesy of PS Underground, we've got 18 minutes of developer-led gameplay, with director Hideaki Itsuno illuminating us on many aspects of the game and showcasing the Magick Archer vocation.

Update: We're glad Dragon's Dogma 2 is out soon, because this ongoing debate over the game's PS5 frame rate is already out of control. Yesterday, a bunch of fresh previews for the action RPG dropped — and just about every single one of them gushed over how good the game is shaping up to be. Some even went as far to call it a guaranteed Game of the Year contender.

Fresh previews for Dragon's Dogma 2 are dropping, and you know what that means! Yep, it's once again time to discuss the game's frame rate, which has been a hot topic over the last couple of months. Previously, director Hideaki Itsuno confirmed that the game would feature an uncapped frame rate — meaning that it won't be capped at 30 frames-per-second.

For many, the promise of a game lasting upwards of 100 hours is no longer the selling point that it used to be. People who grew up with games may now find themselves with families or other responsibilities — and so, at least from what we see in comments sections and the like, there's a clear demand for shorter titles that offer more focused experiences.

As was announced back in October of last year, a PS5 version of eternally popular action title Dragon Ball XenoVerse 2 is in the works — and now, we have a release date. Bandai Namco has confirmed that the port will drop on the 24th May, and from what we gather, it'll be a free upgrade if you already own the game on PS4.

Capcom will host a showcase spanning two days across the next week, the publisher has announced. Titled 'Capcom Highlights', the first event takes place on the 7th March at 3pm PT / 6pm ET / 11pm GMT, while the second show kicks off on the 11th March at 3pm PT / 6pm ET / 11pm GMT. The two programs will last 15-20 minutes each.

Metaphor: ReFantazio is the next huge JRPG from Shin Megami Tensei developer Atlus, and if new PS Store pages are anything to go by, then the game's structure will be like Persona, but in reverse. Wishlist pages for the title in Japan and Asia claim you'll «go on quests, dungeon dive, and hunt for treasures by day». Then, during the night, you will «strengthen relationships, build bonds, & increase virtues».

When Dragon Ball FighterZ first released in 2018 for PS4, it was hailed as one of the greatest anime fighting games ever made — and rightfully so. Crafted by the genre experts at Arc System Works, FighterZ was and still is a masterclass in how to adapt an existing franchise. The team-based brawler is both highly accessible on a fundamental level, and deeply technical — to the point where its competitive scene has stood strong for five whole years.

Just a day after Sony confirmed it's laying off 900 PlayStation employees across its first-party studios, publisher EA has announced it's doing the same. In the region of 670 workers — or around five per cent of the company's workforce — will lose their jobs as the EA Sports FC, Battlefield distributor moves «away from development of future licensed IP that we do not believe will be successful in our changing industry».

Rise of the Ronin may not be first-party project, but its download size certainly fits the bill. Following on from the enormity of fellow PS5 exclusive Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth (which sits at a whopping 145GB!), Team Ninja's action RPG with eat up a considerable chunk of your console storage. As reported by the ever-reliable PlayStation Game Size, Ronin weighs in at not-too-crazy-but-still-crazy 96.3GB.

Update: Following the Trophy list posting earlier today on Exophase, Bandai Namco has now confirmed Dragon Ball FighterZ will be treated to a PS5 version as soon as midnight tonight in your local time zone. The game's out tomorrow, 29th February 2024, and the current-gen version will be sporting rollback netcode. It's a free PS4 to PS5 upgrade for anyone who owns the original version.
