2016’s SteamWorld Heist, a turn-based strategy set in the SteamWorld game universe, is getting a sequel and Thunderful Publishing have released a new trailer offering players a deep dive into its gameplay.
SteamWorld Heist II was announced during Nintendo’s Indie World showcase in April, delighting fans of the SteamWorld games who have had a shadow of uncertainty cast over the future of the IP following news of the underperformance of SteamWorld Build earlier in February and layoffs at Thunderful in January.
The SteamWorld series steams ahead, though. SteamWorld Heist II features the similar turn-based gameplay of its predecessor, ricochets included, but there are a couple of new wrinkles added.
The biggest change is the game’s new job system, which allows players to level up and upgrade their steammates (yep) in a number of different disciplines and even mix and match the strengths of various jobs together to create powerful characters that can overcome some of their job’s inherent weaknesses or tradeoffs.
One example given was how players can level up the Boomer and Sniper jobs on the same character and combine the precision of the Sniper job with the explosive AOE of the Boomer.
SteamWorld Heist II releases on the Nintendo Switch, PC, Xbox, and PlayStation on August 8.
