Game Rant can exclusively reveal a new Disney Lorcana card, an alternate version of Ariel — Sonic Warrior. This Enchanted-grade character card is set to reach the Disney-licensed game in mid-May 2024.
Disney Lorcana is a trading card game published by German tabletop and toy manufacturer Ravensburger. Designed by Ryan Miller and Steve Warner, the first edition of Disney Lorcana was released in August 2023. Since then, Ravensburger has treated the TCG to several expansions. Its latest set, Chapter 4: Ursula's Return, was officially announced in February 2024, with the publisher already revealing a couple dozen cards from the upcoming expansion.
Game Rant can now exclusively reveal another Ursula's Return card in the form of an alternate, rarer version of Ariel — Sonic Warrior. Identified by collector number 220/204, the Sonic Warrior rendition of the Little Mermaid will be the eighth Ariel character card to reach the popular TCG since its debut. It is one of the 33 new Disney Lorcana cards with a Steel Ink type that's coming in Ursula's Return, which is scheduled to hit the market on May 17.

While its base counterpart, identified by collector number 175/204, was illustrated by one Marcel Berg, the artwork of this newly revealed variant was authored by Filipino illustrator noc4urne. Both Disney Lorcana cards depict a smiling Ariel in golden armor, wielding a matching spear underwater. But noc4urne's illustration moves away from the traditional Disney style in favor of a different type of visuals characterized by softer brushwork and character linework that's blended into the surroundings in order to achieve a stylish underwater effect.
The base variant of Ariel — Sonic Warrior is classified as a Super Rare. Meanwhile, its alternate art version is two tiers higher on the Disney Lorcana rarity list, having been classified as an Enchanted card. Pulling it from a pack is hence bound to be significantly harder, as each booster has a maximum of one Enchanted card and up to two Super Rare ones. Neither rarity type is guaranteed to be found in any given pack, so Ariel — Sonic Warrior may very well continue the recent trend of Disney Lorcana cards fetching eye-watering prices on the second-hand market.
