Glen Schofield, founder of Striking Distance Studios and director of its first game, The Callisto Protocol, has announced he is departing the company. Schofield is perhaps best known as the co-creator of the Dead Space franchise and the co-founder of Call of Duty developer Sledgehammer Games. Steve Papoutsis, who previously served as chief development officer and general manager for Striking Distance Studios, has been appointed as the new CEO.

New leaks suggest that the final nail in the Xbox Series S' coffin could be coming sooner than expected. Microsoft released two versions of its Xbox console in 2020: the Series S and the Series X. This is a common strategy in the current home console generation, with the PS5 also releasing in two differently priced models. However, the Series S lags far behind all the other consoles on the market today. While it has a lower price point, its limitations make it a tough sell, and many have long believed it's time to ditch the Xbox Series S for an upgraded console.

Sony's latest firmware update for PS5 is here, and it's the one that's been in a beta testing phase since the end of July. System software version 23.02-08.00.00 is available to download and install now for all users, and it's a big one, adding support for Dolby Atmos, larger capacity SSDs, and much more. The update is just over 1GB in size.

Wizardry may not ring a bell instantly in younger gamers’ minds, but it’s one of the most iconic RPG games of all time. Way back in the 80s, this bad boy stood as the first party-based RPG ever, and as one of the first Dungeons & Dragons-inspired video games. Digital Eclipse set out to remake the masterpiece, recreating Wizardry over the original game’s code. As if the developer’s reveal of the remastered version isn’t enough to get us excited, the studio also just released the new game in its early access state.

AI Roundup: Tencent has obtained regulatory approval to launch its AI model, Hunyuan, in China. This tool already powers over 50 of Tencent's products and services. A study by Finnish and Norwegian researchers found that AI chatbots like ChatGPT-3 and ChatGPT-4 generate more creative ideas for unconventional everyday items than average humans. In a separate development, MIT researchers developed Style2Fab, a generative AI tool allowing users to customize 3D-printable models using natural language prompts while preserving functionality.
