Dead by Daylight has officially revealed that the next licensed killer coming to the game is Child Play's Chucky, despite previous claims that he was "too funny" to make it in.
Yesterday, Behaviour Interactive shared a teaser for Dead by Daylight's next killer, which showed a knife rack that was missing a big kitchen knife. Although lots of horror movie killers wield kitchen knives, many fans guessed from the tease that Child's Play's Chucky was going to be announced as the next licensed killer.
Some fans thought that the tease that Behaviour released yesterday could actually be for Five Nights at Freddy's Springtrap, who used a kitchen knife in the recently-released movie. Seems like they're going to have to keep waiting for that inevitable crossover, though.
Well, those eagle-eyed horror fans can give themselves a big pat on the back, as Behaviour Interactive has just revealed that Chucky is indeed coming to Dead by Daylight on November 28. Despite many assuming that the infamous killer was too small to join the game and wouldn't work with a roster of normal-sized murderers, the teaser trailer for Chucky indicates that he's going to be the same doll-size as always and that Brad Dourif is returning to voice him.
IGN's article on the reveal gives us a bit more information about the crossover, noting that Chucky excels at sneaking around the map thanks to his short stature, and that his abilities include a lunge attack, an assist from Charles Lee Ray in spirit form, and a move that lets him bypass windows and pallets. It looks like he's going to be a pretty powerful killer.
The article also revealed that players can customise Chucky with an outfit that makes him resemble Tiffany Valentine, who will in turn be voiced by Jennifer Tilly, just like in the movies. Now we just need an outfit for Glenda from Seed of Chucky, and we'll be all set on the extended Chucky family.
Although Dead by Daylight has made a name for itself by adding in licensed killers from horror series of all types, Chucky's inclusion in the game does come as a bit of a surprise. In a 2019 interview with TheGamer, game director Mathieu Côté noted that Chucky was "likely just too far outside the genre to be used" because he was "too funny", something that has seemingly changed now that he's actually being added to the game.
That being said, that interview also claimed that the Xenomorph from Alien was likely too far into the sci-fi genre to ever be included in Dead by Daylight, which is also something that happened this year. Either Côté knew about these plans all the way back in 2019 and was being coy about it, or Behaviour has simply decided to be a bit more leniant about who can join the game.
