Don't expect to see Call of Duty popping up on Game Pass as soon as the ink dries on Microsoft's proposed Activision Blizzard deal (if it dries, that is — of course nothing has been confirmed as yet).
Speaking with IGN at Gamescom, Xbox head Phil Spencer stated there is a lot more to getting a game on its subscription service than many may realise.
«I want to make sure people know that there's work to actually move games to Game Pass,» the exec stated when asked about Activision's shooter coming to the service. «So, for people who think like, 'the deal is going to close, and then everything's available on Game Pass' — that's not true.»
Spencer said this is the same as it has been for previous acquisitions in the past. «There's work for us to go through, just mechanical work,» he stated. «It will take us time to get the games up.»
So, there you have it.
As for Call of Duty, earlier this week the team shared a sneak peak at Tomb Raider's Lara Croft, who is set to join the game. Previously, her inclusion had only been shared on PlayStation's blog, leaving some unsure if she would be a console exclusive.
However, it seems she will be arriving on all platforms, and from the teaser shared it looks like when she does join the fray, she will be in her 'Classic Lara' get up (see image below).

Microsoft is coming to Tokyo Game Show with Game Pass reveals planned.
Starfield appears to have broken Microsoft‘s record for the biggest launch day for an Xbox Game Studios title.
Microsoft announced that the Xbox Digital Broadcast is returning for Tokyo Game Show 2023 after last year's debut. The Xbox Digital Broadcast is set to air on Tokyo Game Show’s official YouTube channel and select Xbox social channels in Japanese, English, Korean, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Malay, Thai, Vietnamese, Indonesian, French, German, and Castilian Spanish starting September 21st at 6 PM JST / 9 AM UTC / 2 AM PDT. The broadcast will also be available with Japanese Sign Language (JSL), Australian Sign Language (AusLan), and audio descriptions in both Japanese and English.
Microsoft Corp. Xbox chief Phil Spencer said the software giant continues to work with UK regulators to sort out the remaining hurdles to its $69 billion purchase of Activision Blizzard Inc., and the company is confident it can get the deal over the line.
If the last six months or so of gaming have taught us anything, it’s that the “rivalry” between the three main gaming publishers is still going strong. That might be sad to say or hear, but it’s the truth. Sony sued Microsoft for anti-trust reasons basically, and during those proceedings, neither of them wanted to admit that Nintendo was a “true rival” for them due to the Switch’s price point, of all things. These three have been going at it for a long time, yet Phil Spencer found time to go and play Super Mario Bros Wonder at the recent Nintendo Live event.
Bethesda‘s head of publishing Pete Hines says the company will make Redfall “a good game”, despite an underwhelming reception at launch.
If you were hopeful that mod support would be featured in Starfield right out of the gate, you might be in for some disappointment. Fortunately, we knew Starfield would feature mod support. The video game is easily one of the more anticipated titles to launch this year and arguably one of the biggest for the Xbox team in a very long time. However, with the game nearly here with the official launch and those on early access getting to dive in, you will have to enjoy the vanilla experience of the game. All the extra goodies that come packed from mods will be coming later.
Even after Starfield's launch, don't expect to hear more about Bethesda's fantasy RPG anytime soon.
The Elder Scrolls 6 is seemingly in active development, right as Starfield launches.
Lara Croft is coming to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone as part of the imminent Season 5 content drop, and... I am not OK with this. I am not OK. The news has been out there for a while, but today's Activision screenshot bulletin is the first I've heard of it, and I am here to tell you that this is a travesty and a disgrace and, excuse me, I'm sorry, I need a moment. What have they done to you, Lara? Oh hell, they've even used your "I only play for sport" quote from the original TR intro as a finishing move catchphrase. Good night, sweet Croft. May flights of angels (of Darkness) sing you to your rest.
