Baldur’s Gate 3 is Currently OpenCritic’s Highest-Rated Game of All Time

Choices are hard, especially when you’re creating your ideal character in a massive RPG with hundreds of customization options based on long-running Dungeons and Dragons traditions. Even though you’ve finally settled on your race and appearance in Baldur’s Gate 3, giving your half-orc beefcake just the right amount of facepaint, you’ve still got to pick your class and eventually your subclass… and there are so many options!

Larian Studios had much to discuss in its recent Steam Community post for Baldur’s Gate 3, from confirming major performance improvements with Patch 2 to discussing “cut content.” It also outlined its plans, which are to continue monitoring bugs and patch them “as fast as we can.”

Baldur's Gate 3's second patch is right around the corner, with Larian Studios suggesting that it's a ‘chonky' one. In a community update post on Steam, the developer revealed that the patch will be focused on improving performance issues, specifically in Act 3, where players have reported laggy cutscenes and stutters when the camera pans around. In addition to fixing bugs that halted quest progression, our companion, the cheerful Tiefling Karlach, will be getting a new optional ending — a closure that is described as ‘fiery' and ‘poignant'. The lengthy blog post also touches upon some cut content that was discovered recently by data miners, some of which have now been revealed as a consequence of bugs.

The beauty of Dungeons & Dragons lies in its immersive role-playing structure that bestows upon you the role of an author, but you never truly know where the story is headed. A highly dynamic world that reacts to the digits on a polyhedral dice to weave an emotional tale about a group of broken people, gambling their lives against sinister forces that ooze Lovecraftian vibes. On the other hand, you can take a backseat and watch it all fade to misery, as you scroll through Astarion fan art and look up the quickest ways to romance bears in-game.

Baldur's Gate III will be coming to Xbox consoles this year after all. In a tweet, Larian Studios CEO Swen Vincke confirmed that he and Xbox head Phil Spencer had found a solution to bring the critically acclaimed CRPG to Microsoft's current-gen consoles. There's one catch though: the game won't support split-screen co-op on the less-expensive Xbox Series S — a feature the developer has been struggling to enable for months now, thanks to the technical limitations of the console. In fact, to maintain parity of features between Baldur's Gate 3 on the Xbox Series S and X, Microsoft even sent engineers from their side to help out Larian.

Baldur's Gate III is prepared to receive its first patch and by the looks of it, it seems like a huge one. Larian Studios CEO Swen Vincke confirmed a roadmap on Twitter, promising to fix issues and make relevant tweaks to ability balances, based on user suggestions. First up, is hotfix #4, which would make some emergency fixes to crashes and progressions blocks, in addition to any bugs that hinder the general interface. That will be followed by the massive patch, boasting over 1,000 fixes, followed by patch 2, which will ‘incorporate some requests.' It's unclear what those requests could be, but we already know that the team is planning an update that would let players change their character's appearance mid-game.

It’s official — Baldur’s Gate 3 is the best video game of all time. Well, it’s in the top 10 best video games of all time, coming in tenth place. And this isn’t just in my opinion; Baldur’s Gate 3 is in the top 10 games of all time on Metacritic, a respectable site that compiles the reviews of critics and users.

A studio that handled Baldur’s Gate III translations has apologized after outsourced workers were omitted from the game’s credits. "We take full responsibility for this omission of our freelancers' names and apologize for the effects that it had," Altagram Group founder and CEO Marie Amigues said in a statement. "We would like to thank Larian for allowing us to quickly fix that error and update the credits section. The names of the Brazilian Portuguese translators will be included in an upcoming patch to the game."

In a year where The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom came along and swept everyone off their feet not only with its astounding sales, but also with the universal praise it garnered, most would have imagined that it would be hard for another game to reach that same level. And yet, Larian Studios’ recently-released RPG sensation Baldur’s Gate 3 seems to be giving Nintendo’s open world title a run for its money- at least right now.
