Every so often, a game comes out of nowhere and takes everyone by surprise. To be fair, we’ve seen quite a few of those in 2024 already – from Palworld to Helldivers 2 – and Balatro is surely one among them. LocalThunk’s deckbuilding roguelite game launched for PC and consoles late last month and has raked in widespread plaudits since its launch, even currently sitting at a Metacritic score of 90.
That success, it turns out, is being reflected in how the game is selling as well. Taking to Twitter, publisher Playstack recently announced that Balatro has sold over 500,000 units across all platforms, and has managed to hit that milestone in just 10 days. Word of mouth for the game has been strong, to say the least, so it should be interesting to see what the trajectory of its sales looks like as we continue moving forward.
Balatro is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
