While the most recent update for Assassin's Creed Mirage added a long awaited and highly requested feature, fans have also discovered a secret new NPC has also been added to the streets of 9th century Baghdad. Ditching the massive, open world trappings of the most recent Assassin's Creed titles, Mirage was seen by many fans as a true return to the classic games. Focusing mainly on stealth action parkour, Assassin's Creed Mirage proved to be a hit with critics and gamers alike, even becoming one of Ubisoft's biggest launches on the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
Even without the live service elements of previous Assassin's Creed titles, Ubisoft continues to keep Mirage updated through new patches and additional features. Although Ubisoft has no plans to add in any sort of DLC or future expansions, the studio has added a couple of fan-requested features through post-launch updates. The first arrived back in December when Ubisoft added New Game Plus to Assassin's Creed Mirage, followed this week by the anticipated Permadeath game mode. In both cases, these updates also came with new cosmetic options for Basim, including iconic outfits worn by Bayek and Rayhan to name a few.
News of a unique new NPC was first revealed in the recent patch notes for Assassin's Creed Mirage, teasing the arrival of a new Easter egg for players to locate. The patch notes stopped well short of spoiling the surprise of who or what was added, only hinting that the special assassin was "purrusing" the streets and that players should be sure to take a photo if they "meownage" to find them. Clearly, the tease was referencing another cat-related secret for Assassin's Creed Mirage players to track down.
The confirmation originally came from a user named Lieven, who shared the discovery inside of a Discord channel for the content creator known as JorRaptor. After sharing a short clip of the new interaction with the Hidden One dressed cat, the official Assassin's Creed account confirmed the rumors that players can locate this special kitty roaming the streets of Ubisoft's take on 9th century Baghdad during the reign of the Abbasid Caliphate.
This isn't the first cat related Easter egg that Assassin's Creed Mirage has hidden. While there doesn't seem to be a shortage of wild cats roaming Assassin's Creed: Mirage, there was one in particular that players could come across who had what appeared to be the assassin's icon on its nose. While that alone may seem like a neat nod to the overall franchise, the design was actually based on a real life cat who was owned by a fan of the franchise that passed away prior to the release of Assassin's Creed Mirage. The cat's inclusion is a way for that particular fan to be honored by the developers.
