A Pokemon Emerald player and artist stated that they are painting the entire map of the Hoenn Region, and shared five paintings they have created so far on social media. The Pokemon fan artist stated that they were halfway done with turning the Hoenn region into paintings, and other fans complimented them for their ongoing effort and for depicting Pokemon Emerald in their art.
As the third version that went alongside Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire, Pokemon Emerald was released in 2004 in Japan, and in 2005 in Western markets. As did Pokemon Yellow and Pokemon Crystal before it, Pokemon Emerald made some changes to the Hoenn region that were not featured in Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire. Between gym battle updates, the player character receiving a new outfit, and a new story that focuses on the powerful Legendary Pokemon Rayquaza, Pokemon Emerald is considered by fans to be among the top «third versions» of the Pokemon franchise. Pokemon Emerald was referenced during the Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire epilogue, dubbed the Delta Episode.
While Pokemon Emerald fans have depicted the game's Hoenn region in different styles, one fan artist chose a unique approach. On Reddit, a user named DavSketch shared five paintings of their ongoing work to paint the entire Hoenn region on the r/Pokemon subreddit. Across five screenshots, DavSketch shared their efforts in painting various locations and features of Pokemon Emerald. The post showed their work on Dewford Town, Petalburg Woods, the Abandoned Ship, the Fiery Pass under Mt. Chimney, and a Secret Base made in a dark cave. DavSketch also included an Easter egg of another Nintendo character, Kirby, interacting with a Poliwag in their painting of Dewford Town.
In the Secret Base that they created in the painting, DavSketch had their Sceptile and Poliwhirl sitting around the cave's floor, with a table and posters of Zangoose and Seviper along the walls. Although Secret Bases were a feature that went by the wayside in subsequent Pokemon games, it remains a sentimental favorite among Pokemon trainers. In the comments, DavSketch stated that they were roughly halfway done with their project at the time of writing and that the spots they chose for their post were picked randomly. Other Pokemon fans praised DavSketch for the paintings and their commitment to painting the entire Hoenn project.
Through the years, both the Hoenn region and its native Pokemon remained fan favorites. Though it's a long task, it remains to be seen when DavSketch finishes their Pokemon Emerald painting project.
