may already be filled with a plethora of gigantic beasts to battle and tame, but fans of large and imposing arachnids who feel like the game is lacking in spiders should check out this impressive mod. Throughout survivors' journies across The Island, plenty of fearsome dinosaurs will rear their intimidating heads, and while they may not all be aggressive, it's still a good idea to form a small collection of beasts that make combat significantly easier. While the latest addition may not pack a massive punch, it makes up for this shortcoming with its adorable appearance.
Posted to CurseForge and shared to Reddit by creator cyrusCreates, the «Cyrus' Critters: Jumping Spider» mod does what it says on the tin by adding an adorable, yet massive, Jumping Spider into.
The creature, which goes by the name Thorax Spider, can be tamed and mounted to significantly speed up traversal around The Island, especially since one of its abilities allows it to scale nearly every vertical surface in the game. While it may not be the most powerful bug around, its Pounce skill helps speed up the hunt and its Venomous Bite should leave most targets incapacitated.
While the mechanical aspects of cyrusCreates' Jumping Spider mod are impressive in their own right, the creator went one step further by creating some unique skills that make the creature feel like a natural part of. Additionally, Male Thorax Spiders will engage in a special dance to win the heart of the mate, mimicking similar rituals seen in real life.
The amount of detail cyrusCreates placed into their Jumping Spider mod is genuinely impressive, going so far as to create alternative colors for the bugs that seemingly match whichever biome wherein they're encountered. The mod also functions beautifully with little in the way of glitches or problems. The creator of the Thorax Spider does not currently have a death animation but this will likely be built into the add-on in a future update.
The ability to add such a detailed mod into is a testament to the game's community which continues to grow despite the remake's rocky launch. While the revamped version is widely considered to be the best way to play the survival game, many fans have taken issue with the fact that it was initially marketed as a free upgrade to . The addition of paid mods through Overwolf also left a bad taste in many players mouths but despite these problems, the game continues to flourish.
