The year 2023 has been full of surprises with the biggest announcement in technology and Artificial intelligence. While many smartphone brands entered the race to integrate AI into their devices, Apple seems to be a little behind. However, its commitment to the quality and performance of its smartphones ensured it did not have any impact on its iPhone sales as the company dominated the top 7 positions in the list of 10 best-selling smartphones in 2023. In shocking news, Samsung flagship smartphones were nowhere to be found in the top 10 list. Check details here.
According to a Counterpoint Research report, the 10 best-selling smartphones in 2023 list are here and it comes as no surprise that the Apple iPhone models have secured the top positions. However, Samsung flagship smartphones were not present in the list except for some of the budget A-series devices. The 10 best-selling smartphones in 2023 list was topped by iPhone 14 with an expected shipment of 3.9 percent and iPhone 14 Pro Max held the second position. The recently introduced iPhone 15 series also made it to the list where the iPhone 15 Pro Max held the fifth position in just a matter of months.
Additionally, Apple's 2021 launch iPhone 13 also secured the fourth position, showcasing its popularity even after two years of launch.
Samsung acquired three last spots in the top 10 list with the Galaxy A14 5G, A04e, and A14 4G which are the affordable range smartphones by the company.
The report also highlighted that half of the sales of iPhone 14 were seen in the US and China. The Samsung devices sales were seen up in the US and India.
Now that we have entered the new year with new technological advancements in the smartphone industry, it is expected other brands may also break into the top 10 best-selling smartphones list.

Under pressure from European regulators, Apple took a step back in its feud with Epic Games on Friday, clearing the way for Epic Games to put its own game store on iPhones and iPads in Europe. Earlier this week, Apple had taken steps to block Epic from starting up a store and bringing back the popular game Fortnite, which Apple removed from its App Store in 2020 after Epic broke the iPhone maker's in-app payment rules in protest.
Apple has been slowly opening up its hardware and software in response to new legislation in the European Union. The iPhone 15's switch to USB Type-C was partially due to new EU laws about phone chargers, and more recently, the company created support for installing third-party app stores for phones in the EU. However, most of the changes are still blocked from working outside of the EU, and now more region-locked features are on the way.
No one could have predicted that Helldivers 2 would have taken off the way it did, and we’re continuing to see more evidence of just how well Arrowhead Game Studios and Sony’s co-op shooter has performed since its release last month. In the UK, for instance, it was the best-selling game for the month of February by quite some margin, as per data revealed by the GSD that includes both physical and digital sales (via GamesIndustry).
Apple escalated its feud with Epic Games on Wednesday, blocking the Fortnite video-game maker from launching its own online marketplace on iPhones and iPads in Europe.
In a dramatic turn of events, Apple has officially severed ties with Epic Games by terminating its iOS developer account, branding the gaming giant as "verifiably untrustworthy." This latest move not only blocks Epic from releasing any games on iOS but also shatters its plans to introduce the Epic Games Store to Apple users in the European Union.
The EU is stepping in to investigate the latest development in the feud between Apple and Epic, with European regulators now seeking answers from Apple on yesterday's news — that it had banned Epic's developer account.
Apple has been pretty adamant so far that its new mixed-reality headset doesn't need any controllers. While other VR headsets opt for small handheld controllers, interfacing with the Apple Vision Pro is done completely with hand tracking, eye tracking, and integrated Siri voice commands. However, a new patent filed by Apple could hint that the company is expanding the headset's portfolio.
Apple has come along with their iPhones in the last few years. It has created a name and brand image for itself which attracts buyers to invest in its products. However, becoming one of the top smartphones is not enough for tech-savvy buyers in every country. A recent study highlights that iPhone sales in Japan are continuously increasing, but it's the exact opposite in China. Apple iPhone sales have seen a massive decrease, while Huawei has been the choice for many in China. Know more about the market study here and what experts say.
Apple's iPhone sales in China fell 24% year-on-year in the first six weeks of 2024, according to research firm Counterpoint, as the U.S. company faced increased competition from domestic rivals such as Huawei.
If you’ve read the last 10 issues of my Forgotten Gems column, you’ve probably noticed a pattern. I pick a game that may either spark some recognition and you’ll go “oh, yeah – what happened to it?” – or you’ve never heard of the game I’m profiling and you google what year I was born so that you can rest easy that it’s not you, it’s me. Inevitably, the column turns gloomy. An awesome-sounding sequel was planned, but never made. Or, somehow, an entire series of games is no longer accessible to play.
