Apex Legends Developer Has “No Plans to Move to a New Engine at This Time”

Despite being an independent studio, Baldur's Gate 3 developer Larian has such a robust background in RPG development that it can afford to take risks other, less established studios simply can't. At least, that's the perspective of Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader creative director Alexander Mishulin.

After celebrating its fifth anniversary, Bethesda revealed that the survival MMO now boasts over 17 million players. The developers at Bethesda have stated there is even more to come for Fallout 76 in 2024. 

Bloober Team — the Polish game development studio best known for its work on horror games like Layers of Fear, The Medium, and even the upcoming Silent Hill 2 remake, has confirmed that it has another new project in the works. 

EA is rebranding its in-house engine Frostbite to reflect its «renewed focus on partnership» with its studios, but also says its teams are «free to develop on any engine they choose».

We’re losing two great entries into the TV memes category this week: First up is The Gilded Age, which has taken over X feeds everywhere — or at least in a lot of places — with goofy memes paying homage to the series’ arch language and high society antics. That show will be wrapping up its second season, with a possible season 3 on the horizon.

Final Fantasy fans got a closer look at Vincent Valentine and Cid Highwind in a new trailer released for Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth at The Game Awards 2023. The trailer also served as the debut of FF7: Rebirth’s main theme ‘No Promises to Keep’ composed by famed Final Fantasy composer Nobuo Uematsu.

Great news — Skull and Bones is releasing on February 16, 2024, as Ubisoft announced at The Game Awards live. 

Originally scheduled for an October 2023 release, developer Pieces Interactive and publisher THQ Nordic’s Alone in the Dark reboot was delayed into January of next year to avoid a clash with other major games releasing around its original release date. With a little over a month left until its launch though, the survival horror title has been hit with another delay.

2023 has been dominated by an endless news cycle of widespread layoffs across the entirety of the games industry, and that is continuing even as we move into the final weeks of the year. The most recent studio to have suffered cutbacks is Codemasters, the developer of EA Sports WRC and F1 23, among many other racing games.

The world of Fortnite is expanding this week into some new realms. Lego Fortnite, Rocket Racing, and Fortnite Festival are three new experiences (games) coming to Fortnite throughout the week.
