After the public legal hubbub that surrounded the original The Sinking City, developer Frogwares is back to focusing on expanding the franchise – and it’s announced a sequel for PS5, which is currently slated for release in 2025. The Sinking City 2 is set in 1920s America, when a supernatural flood brings Eldritch-like horrors to the city of Arkham. This is being billed as a brand-new, standalone story, unrelated to the original.
The game will be powered by Unreal Engine 5, and is promising a “horror-first” experience, so you can expect more spooks than the original. There’ll still be detective elements, however, and you’ll be able to explore the semi-open world to solve optional puzzles and get to the core of the fiction. With the flood aspect, the environment will change throughout the campaign, as the tides rise and fall altering the layouts of buildings.
The big twist here is that, much like with its Sherlock Holmes: The Awakened remake, Frogwares is once again turning to Kickstarter to help get this project off the ground. The Ukrainian developer obviously still finds itself having to operate under the cloud of Russia’s invasion, and crowdfunding gives it some much-needed financial security in unprecedented times.
CEO Wael Amr explained: “From power cuts as our electrical infrastructure was targeted for months to the need for team members to relocate at very short notice, this financial safety net proved invaluable to us [with Sherlock Holmes: The Awakened]. So, we need to do the same now with The Sinking City 2 as this game is vastly bigger and more complex.” You can contribute to the project through here.

God, I hope they improve the character animations (movement, in particular), but you can't deny the charm of the first game. Lovecraftian vibes = chef's kiss
Got an Alan Wake meets Lovecraft vibe, and I like it.
This studio is good at creating a great atmosphere for games, but they suck when it comes to gameplay mechanics.
@SamMR I loved all the cerebral gameplay mechanics from the first game (which is undoubtedly in their SH games too), but yeah, totally agree that combat and general traversal is pretty rough. It's like watching an action figure with not enough articulation points moving around.
I'm really hoping they can figure that out, because if they do, they could have a real banger on their hands!
@SamMR kind of reminds me of Spiders.
Really interesting

By trying to do so much, Rise of the Ronin feels like an inferior version of everything it's inspired by. With an open world populated by map markers and side activities, it’s a worse Assassin's Creed. With a historical Japanese setting, it's a worse Ghost of Tsushima. With a combat system that prioritises parrying, it's a worse Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. At no point is it a bad experience, but the game's so run of the mill, so formulaic that attempting something new and ultimately failing would have been a more tantalising sell. You've already played better versions of Rise of the Ronin — what it's attempting is just fine, which is probably the most boring outcome possible.
Since the breakout success of Genshin Impact a few years ago, Sony has slowly been encouraging developers to bring their hit gacha games to PS5, which has resulted in the amusing moniker GachaStation 5. But with Zenless Zone Zero and Wuthering Waves right around the corner, the platform holder may have discovered another gem, likely to explode in Asian territories.
MLB The Show 24 may not be the best-looking sports game on the market anymore, but San Diego Studio continues to lead the field by pushing the boundaries of the genre overall. This year’s release may feel largely familiar when you’re at the plate, but the expansion of narrative-based experiences in the Storylines section demonstrates how the first-party developer is evolving elsewhere.
In spite of all its shortcomings, Alone in the Dark is a game we can't help but have a soft spot for. It's packed full of glitches at launch. The combat feels awful. It's not scary whatsoever, and the stealth sequences are dreadful. Yet, there's such a clear passion for the survival horror genre coursing through it that it comes out the other side still a relatively enjoyable experience. On paper, Alone in the Dark is not a good video game. However, with a fondness for the PS1 original and that classic Resident Evil-style gameplay, it's a PS5 title with its heart in the right place.
After the PS5, PS4 ports of Xbox game Pentiment rather unceremoniously had their Platinum Trophies titled incredibly simply as «PlatinumTrophy», the next Microsoft game coming to Sony systems thankfully won't release with the same cock-up. The Hi-Fi Rush Trophy list is live now on Exophase, and its Platinum Trophy is appropriately named «I've gone platinum!».
The Hunter x Hunter video game project that was announced earlier in the year is now officially coming to PS5 — and we've also got confirmation that it's a 2D fighting game, and not some kind of arena brawler, as was speculated by some fans.
Yesterday, Ukrainian developer Frogwares delivered one of the best surprises of the Xbox Partner Showcase with the announcement of The Sinking City 2.
Frogwares has revealed The Sinking City 2, a sequel to the Lovecraftian detective game that’s leaning much, much further in to the horror genre. The game is coming out in 2025 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
The Sinking City 2, a sequel to the 2019 detective horror title, has been revealed at Xbox's Partner Preview event and is leaning even harder into its Lovecraftian inspiration. The Xbox Partner Preview show highlighted some of the exciting third party games set to launch on Xbox in the coming months, including Final Fantasy 14's March 21 Xbox release date, the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Legends of the Zone Trilogy, another look at Capcom's RTS mashup Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess, and much more.
2019’s The Sinking City was a solid entry in the growing catalogue of Lovecraft-inspired horror and adventure games, which later became better-known for the bitter legal battle over the game between developer Frogwares and publisher Nacon. Frogwares was ultimately successful in that battle, and today during the latest Xbox Partner Preview showcase, they announced The Sinking City 2 is on the way.
Frogwares has announced “story-rich Lovecraftian survival horror” sequel The Sinking City 2 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC (Steam, Epic Games Store, GOG). It will launch in 2025. A Kickstarter campaign is also planned.
