Crunchyroll announced an upcoming documentary centered on the rise of Solo Leveling from its conception as a webcomic to the major anime phenomenon it has become in recent years. With the highly-anticipated anime series hitting the right notes with fans, Crunchyroll's THE LEVELING OF SOLO LEVELING documentary will explore the journey of the prolific series from conception to the international screenings of the first episodes of the anime.
Crunchyroll's announcement of the Solo Leveling documentary formed part of the week-long IGN Fan Festival 2024, which kicked off on February 19. THE LEVELING OF SOLO LEVELING documentary will explore the various iterations of the Solo Leveling story, and is being produced by Crunchyroll and Paris-based production company, AllSo. No release date is available yet, but Crunchyroll has released a trailer to tease the upcoming documentary.
The documentary will be shot at locations in both Korea and Japan, featuring interviews of at least 20 people including fans of Solo Leveling. The first part, titled «A Hunter Rises» will follow webnovel and webcomic publisher D&C Media, before heading over to Redice, the biggest webtoon studio in the world, responsible for the conversion of Solo Leveling from webnovel to visual masterclass.
It's no exaggeration to say that Solo Leveling pioneered the international webtoon market.
The second part of THE LEVELING OF SOLO LEVELING is called «Second Awakening», and will be based in Japan, where producers from Aniplex and A-1 Pictures, as well as Solo Leveling director Shunsuke Nakashige (Director, Sword Art Online: Alicization), will take viewers through the production process of the anime adaptation. The second part will also feature interviews with staff working at Crunchyroll's Marketing and Production to discuss how they can help Solo Leveling reach even greater heights.
As previously mentioned, Crunchyroll has not yet provided a release date or window for either part of the upcoming documentary. The documentary will take viewers through every part of the Solo Leveling franchise, leading up to the series premiere which took place in Seoul, Los Angeles and Tokyo.
Fans who saw the trailer from the IGN Fan Festival have speculated that this undertaking is indicative of the producers' understanding of just how much attention and hype the series has garnered over the years, and for some, this documentary is a clear indication that the producers wish to take it all the way, rather than adapt a small part of the original story. With less than ten episodes of the anime out at the moment of writing, and huge parts of the story teased in parts of the opening and the anime itself, fans will be more than excited at the possibility of having a complete

Some Palworld players now have a chance to try out new features before they're officially rolled out for everyone else. Pocketpair's new game of battling and collecting creatures, exploring, and building has become a hit since it launched back in January as an early access title. Lots of fans are already having a blast with all the Palworld content and are eagerly waiting for more as new features get rolled out.
Pokemon GO players have expressed their disappointment with the game's upcoming Verdant Wonders Special Research event featuring the mythical Zarude. While most events, such as Weather Week in Pokemon GO that's happening just before Verdant Wonders, are regular instances that are free for all players to join, many have begun to notice that the game has been ramping up its pay-to-play side lately.
Astlibra Revision is a genre-blending, timeline-hopping experience that makes the usual JRPG plot of steadily escalating toward fighting god look downright tame. It feels like reading a '90s sci-fantasy manga in a wind tunnel. It's also infuriatingly difficult to explain without spoiling the crap out of it (I gave it a try in 2022). That girl in the above image? I cannot begin to describe her character arc.

Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess is coming to Xbox Game Pass in 2024, Capcom has confirmed. The «action strategy» game inspired by Japanese mythology is yet another addition to the long list of titles that will have day-one Xbox Game Pass debuts this year.
In a recent interview with The Verge’s Decoder podcast, Crunchyroll president Rahul Purini revealed that the anime-focused streaming service was experimenting with implementing AI-generated subtitles for the service’s library of titles. Purini’s proposition was that AI could expedite the workflow of subtitling and closed captioning in order to launch episodes “as close to the Japanese release as possible” for worldwide anime fans.
As another weekend rolls around, we're back with another batch of streaming recommendations. It's a strong week for movies, with brand-new sci-fi drama Spaceman taking Adam Sandler to new dimensions on Netflix, Ridley Scott's historical epic Napoleon arriving on Apple TV Plus, and Sofia Coppola's latest film Priscilla hitting MUBI in the UK.
This March’s new games are a lot more niche than those released so far in 2024, but they are shaping up to be some of the best in their respective genres. Princess Peach is getting her first starring role in a game in over 18 years, while franchises like Alone in the Dark and Dragon’s Dogma are making a comeback after long dormancies. March 22, in particular, looks like it will be a busy day with three AAA games all launching alongside each other.
An Animal Crossing: New Horizons player is showing off their bread-selling operation in the game and fellow fans are impressed. The latest entry in Nintendo's charming social simulation series was released back in 2020 and quickly became a hit with gamers looking for a relaxing experience of designing quaint villages. Part of what made Animal Crossing: New Horizons so successful was the sheer amount of things it allowed players to do. From befriending villagers and designing their own island to building their dream house and decorating it for every season, fans can sink hundreds of hours into the game.
Every game has its share of ups and downs. When a studio finally has everything figured out and progresses toward full production, there’s typically a barrage of changes that happen. This is something that was happening even towards the very end of Resident Evil 4. The latest installment to a series of remakes from Capcom had caused quite a few headaches within the team.
Fans of Japanese action-RPGs, I bring two pieces of good news: Reynatis, the game a team of Final Fantasy veterans showed off during last week's Nintendo Partner Direct, isn't Japan- or Switch-exclusive, and it's been confirmed for a worldwide launch later this year.
