7 Days to Die, the survival open world first-person shooter zombie-themed game, will finally leave early access after over ten years. Developer The Fun Pimps announced the unexpected news during the weekend. The goal is to release version 1.0 in June for PC, while the console version will ship in July. Later, cross-play will be added to the game, probably with the first major post-launch update.
Answering why now is the right time to launch 7 Days to Die, the developers wrote:
We have been developing 7 Days for nearly 12 years and have had over twenty large scale early access releases that have brought the game to a significantly different place and quality than where it began. Our team feels satisfied with our efforts, especially with the significant overall progress, art quality and optimizations that have gone into the current release slated for all PC and Consoles and are ready for launch. We are now turning our focus to other ways we can support ALL versions of the game – through our planned roadmap, free updates, and beyond! The Fun Pimps have and will continue to support 7 Days to Die development with a majority of their resources.
Version 1.0 will include the following improvements: character system, armor/clothing overhaul, completely remade vehicle assets, new animals, new gore system for zombies, zombie variance, new challenge system, new props, road decals, new points of interest, updated VFX/graphics Upgrades, optimization, random generation improvements, and updated controller support, plus other updates to systems not listed.
The Fun Pimps also provided an extended 7 Days to Die post-launch roadmap. Update 1 (scheduled for Q4 2024) will add a weather system (and overhaul biome progression), a wardrobe system, cross-play and random generation for consoles, additional zombie stages, the ability to spawn near a friend, Twitch Drops, and outfit DLCs. Update 2, slated to land in Q2 2025, will introduce bandits, a UI/menu overhaul, an event system, and a new quest type. Lastly, Update 3 (scheduled for Q4 2025) will overhaul traders, add a story mode, Steam Workshop support, and a new quest type.
The game's price will also be increased to $44.99 on all platforms. However, Steam users will still be able to pick up 7 Days to Die at the current price ($24.99) until Monday, April 29.

Dread Delusion is a creepo-tastic open world RPG that positively reeks of King's Field and the Elder Scrolls of yore. Created by Lovely Hellplace and published by horror anthology specialists DreadXP, it's so far up my alley it's probably been mugged by some kind of hideous clockwork cutthroat - and yet somehow, I've never played the thing. I'll be rectifying that on 14th May, when Dread Delusion leaves early access.

Earlier this week, the studio announced that Fallout 76 surpassed one million daily players across all platforms for the first time since its launch in late 2018. The multiplayer game is one of the top sellers on Steam (and elsewhere), largely thanks to various promotions and offers that have, however, since ended. On Valve's PC platform, the game reached 73.3K concurrent players last Sunday.
While the long-standing curse of gaming adaptations has been broken for quite a while, the Fallout TV adaptation (just renewed for a second season) stands out from many others not only because of its sheer quality but also because it dared to progress the story further, taking place after the latest games instead of merely adapting existing storylines.
