YouTube Testing Stadia-Like Service Called 'Playables'

Style can go a long way for an action game, where looking good is just as important as being good. Enotria: The Last Song got that message loud and clear, leading with remarkable landscapes and avant garde costumes to dress up its largely soulsborne-like combat fundamentals. I love some good soulslike clash and bang as much as the next gamer, but I’d be lying to you if I said I wasn’t ready for something new to the genre. Enotria, at least in theory, agrees with me there, and though my hands-on time was a great introduction to some bold new attempts to bring true combat classes and flashy special abilities into the very familiar system, it’s still a bit too early to know just how showstopping they are.

Like A Dragon fans have a lot to look forward to over the next six months, with two exciting titles on the docket. Like A Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name is the first game out of the gates, launching on November 9 later this year. Before today, we were still without a release date for Ichiban's next adventure in Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth, but Ryu Ga Gotoku Studios has revealed that the game will be launchin on January 26 next year.

Having spent a good few hours with The First Descendant on PS5 — ahead of its open beta release later this month — we're happy to report that this free-to-play shooter seems to have a solid base to build upon. Very reminiscent of Destiny in terms of structure, we didn't quite have time to dig into finer details, but the gameplay clicked almost immediately thanks to buttery smooth controls and a near constant supply of loot (even if we did end up spending a touch too much time rummaging through equipment menus).

Unlike the early 2010s, when the space was still less crowded and anyone with original content and consistency could gain subscribers to become a big YouTuber, today it takes a lot more. YouTube understands this and has been working to improve its creator ecosystem to enable new accounts to gain more subscribers and grow organically. As a part of this effort, the video sharing giant is testing a cool new feature where the Subscribe button begins glowing every time the creator asks people to subscribe.

Back in June, reports began circlating that Google, fresh off its Stadia streaming flop, was looking to incorporate playable online games into YouTube. Well, we can now sling those reports onto the 'correct' pile; testing for the tech giant new feature is officially underway.

YouTube, which is owned by Google, is trying out a new gaming feature called "Playables." This is a move back into gaming for Google after it stopped its Stadia gaming service in January 2023. "Playables" are games that you can play right on YouTube, whether you're on a computer or a mobile device. Google is testing this feature with a select group of users. These games will have their own section on YouTube's main page, and you can access them on both computers and phones. Whether these games will be rolled out to a larger audience is as yet unknown. However, since it is jumping into the gaming arena again, it shows that luring gamers to the platform is being taken seriously by folks at Google.

YouTube is launching an in-app platform for bite-sized games, adding to the ways you can interact with content on the popular video service. Sadly, this is no full-fledged cloud-gaming experience — think of it more like Miniclip living inside the social video site.
