XDefiant Struggling to Nail Down Launch Date as Ubisoft Execs Attempt to Copy Call of Duty – Rumour

Star Wars Outlaws received a new trailer Tuesday, revealing key story details, more characters and a release date. The action-adventure title from Ubisoft will be released on August 30, 2024. The open world Star Wars game will put players in the shoes of Kay Vess, a scoundrel taking on intergalactic heists in the Outer Rim during a time when criminal organisations are thriving. Star Wars Outlaws is now available for pre-order across PC, PS5 and Xbox Series S/X platforms.

It’s been nearly a couple of years since Ubisoft announced that its Montreal studio had taken over development of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake from its Pune and Mumbai studios. At the time, it was said that Ubisoft Montreal would be building on the work that had already been done on the remake, but it now seems that the project has undergone a complete overhaul.

There’s been no shortage of recent indications that Star Wars Outlaws is going to release sooner than many expect. In addition to age ratings going up in Brazil, Australia, and South Korea, promotional pre-order material for the game has also been spotted in the wild, while leaks have previously claimed that the game is due out in the first half of the year. Now, a release date has leaked, and though it’s not quite in the first half of 2024, it’s still not terribly far away.

It recently emerged via leaks that Microsoft is allegedly set to announce this year’s Call of Duty game, allegedly titled Call of Duty: Black Ops Gulf War, in June, including a showing at the Xbox Games Showcase on June 9. Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson has corroborated those claims in a separate report– and interestingly, Henderson claims that won’t be the only Call of Duty-related announcement in June.

Another Prince of Persia game will hit the market on May 14 following a mid-April announcement, a prominent industry insider has claimed. Much like the recently released PoP: The Lost Crown, the upcoming title is said to be a spin-off instead of a new mainline entry in the Prince of Persia franchise.

After enjoying critical acclaimed with Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, it looks like Ubisoft is already gearing up to take the next step forward for the franchise. A recent report by Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson claimed that the company had partnered with Dead Cells developer Evil Empire for development of roguelite title The Rogue Prince of Persia, and that it was set to launch in early access for Steam sometime this year.

Shift Up’s Stellar Blade isn’t out yet, but the developer is already prepping for post-launch. Speaking to RULIWEB (translation via Genki on Twitter), director Kim Hyung-tae confirmed that future updates will add New Game Plus and new costumes.

After what felt like an eternity, the Prince of Persia franchise finally has life in it again. Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown released later this year (with DLC also being in the works), while Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake is also in development- and it seems Ubisoft’s plans for the franchise entail more than just those two.

PS5 Pro specs have been the subject of numerous leaks over recent months, and the last couple of weeks in particular have shed a great deal of light on alleged details on the rumoured mid-gen console refresh. But with supposed enhancements like its proprietary supersampling tech dubbed PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution Upscaling (or PSSR), 45 percent faster rendering, and more, how exactly is Sony hoping developers will take advantage of the console’s more powerful hardware?

Rumors are running rampant about a supposed PlayStation 5 Pro, or PS5 Pro for short. Just like we got a mid-generation upgrade with the PS4 Pro last console cycle, many are expecting PlayStation to release an incrementally more powerful machine the bridge the gap between the launch unit and an eventual PlayStation 6. Leaks have been coming out from some fairly credible sources with a lot of juicy and very specific details about what a hypothetical PS5 Pro could look like. As credible as these sources may be, we do still need to take everything we see with a grain of salt until Sony officially confirms this system even exists. Ubisoft has confirmed that XDefiant is delayed once again but teased that another public playtest is coming soon. Potential Call of Duty competitor XDefiant was previously intended to launch during Q1 2024, which ends on March 31.

XDefiant has been delayed again as it was previously scheduled to be released by the end of March 2024. Now, Ubisoft is aiming to "lock" down a release date after a short test period.
