Xbox Series X Refresh: Everything we know so far

When Alan Wake 2 launches towards the end of the month, on PS5 and Xbox Series X, it will have a Performance Mode (which will run “mostly” at 60 FPS)- though the weaker Xbox sibling, Xbox Series S, will only have a 30 FPS option (which Remedy has stressed is going to be “rock-solid”).

Kalypso Media has announced a new title in the Commandos series – Commandos: Origins. Developed by Claymore Game Studios, it launches in 2024 for Xbox Series X/S, PS5 and PC via Steam and Epic Games Store while also available on day one for Game Pass.

11 bit studios’ The Alters, a sci-fi survival title involving alternate versions of the main character, launches in 2024 for Xbox Series X/S, PS5 and PC. A new trailer and screenshots are available, providing brief snippets of gameplay. Check it out below.

The major update for Warhammer 40,000: Darktide that, among other things, brings a major overhaul to the game’s classes, is out now on PC. Alongside the release of the update, the game’s Xbox Series X/S version has also been released.

Trepang Studios’ fast-paced and stylish first-person shooter Trepang2 is now available for Xbox Series X/S and PS5. It was released earlier this year on PC and supports 60 frames per second on current-gen platforms. Check out the console launch trailer below.

Nintendo’s next-gen console has been in the leaks a great deal recently. Allegedly set to be capable of outputting visuals that’ll be comparable to PS5 and Xbox Series X/S thanks to its implementation of DLSS, recent leaks have claimed that the Switch 2 will be seeing simultaneous releases for a lot of major multiplatform games. However, if you were hoping that the console would also get a port of Final Fantasy 7 Remake – as some have speculated – it seems that won’t be the case.

From classic literature and movies to TV and video games, the horror genre has become one of the most popular and widespread categories of culture, and although many horror games exist on most consoles and have since the beginning of the video game industry, the Xbox Series X/S has an almost unbelievable amount to choose from. Despite the abundance of games on the system, some horror games on the latest generation of Xbox are far scarier than others.

Microids, in cooperation with Bilibili, will release Chinese studio BadMudStudio-developed roguelike action game Warm Snow for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC via Microsoft Store on October 20 for $19.99, the companies announced.

Cities: Skylines 2 is one of several major titles set to launch in October, though the city building simulator’s launch has been hit with a delay- partially at least. Though the game will still launch towards the end of the month on PC as planned, its console versions won’t be getting a simultaneous release, and will instead launch next year.

Publisher Playtonic Friends and developer Castle Pixel will release Blossom Tales II: The Minotaur Prince for Xbox Series and Xbox One via Microsoft Store on October 4, the companies announced.

The recent leaks of Microsoft’s court documents for its recent trial against the FTC have dominated the news cycle for several days now, and more new nuggets of information are still continuing to filter through. For instance, it’s now also emerged that out of Microsoft’s two current-gen Xbox consoles, the less powerful (and cheaper one) had a significantly larger share of the market than its counterpart, at least as of early last year.

Over the weekend, over 120 documents were published to the United States District Court Northern District of California’s files website pertaining to the Federal Trade Commission v. Microsoft Corporation case regarding Microsoft’s proposed acquisition of Activision Blizzard.
