In The War Within, one enemy type that we will face are the Skardyn, deadly void-corrupted dwarves who we last encountered in the novel Night of the Dragon, and who have unique ties to the Harbinger of the Void, Xal'atath.
The Skardyn are aggressive, void-corrupted dwarves that have been transformed by their corruption into monster-like creatures. We will encounter them in-game for the first time during The War Within, where they act as antagonists. Their origin is linked to Xal'atath, the Harbinger herself.
Early on in The War Within storyline, one of the problems that players find the Earthen struggling with is broken machinery that they rely on for self-maintenance — preventing them from being able to archive their memories or recharge. In The Ringing Deeps Storyline, players discover how Xal'atath used this problem to manipulate the Earthen for her own cause. Xal'atath approached the High Speaker of the Ringing Deeps with the offer of an artifact that would repair the Awakening Machine, allowing the Earthen to be woken from stasis once more.
Xal'atath's words carried a hint of warning — speaking about «perfecting» the machine rather than «repairing» it, and that the Earthen will be «improved». In other words, she always planned to change the Earthen — but perhaps out of desperation, the High Speaker didn't seem to notice, and agreed.
Of course, Xal'atath's «improved» Earthen are Skardyn who are obedient to her.
Interestingly, this isn't the first time Xal'atath has brought about the creation of the Skardyn — they seem to be a bit of a trademark of hers.
Skardyn were first mentioned in the novel Night of the Dragon. In this story, Skardyn are descended from Dark Iron dwarves who followed the sorceress queen, Modgud, during the War of the Three Hammers.
Modgud led her army against the stronghold of Grim Batol. She possessed the dagger Xal'atath at the time, and under the dagger's influence performed powerful dark magic that brought the shadows of Grim Batol to life.
Like many of Xal'atath's previous wielders, Modgud was abandoned by the dagger in her hour of need and slain, along with most of her followers. However, some of her Dark Iron escaped into Grim Batol — which had to be deserted by its previous inhabitants due to

There aren't many ways left to put a twist on Stardew Valley, but suffixing it with "in space!" oughta do it. Little-Known Galaxy is out in a week, and currently has a demo on Steam, where you can sample many of the delights that you're used to from a Stardewlike when you're new in town: meeting the locals, growing potatoes, and tidying up the place. Also, raising alien pets, seeking out new life, and new civilisations... It all takes place on a spaceship, you see, and this has some ramifications to playing the game beyond reskinning everything to be shiny metal instead of picturesque mud. It's an intriguing proposition.
In the Fallout TV series, it's revealed that Vault-Tec nuked the iconic Shady Sands. It's been incredibly controversial with fans, but they're not alone. Designer John Deiley, who took it from a small innocuous settlement in the first game to the thriving NCR capital of Fallout 2, also isn't happy with the decision.
Amid all the debates around the canon status of since the release of the TV series, there's one particular faction ending that makes a lot more sense. The TV series is the latest in the timeline, which means it inevitably incorporates details from all the games. These can be both major and minor, ranging from people and places referenced on posters seen briefly in the background of one shot, to entire recurring factions who play a major role in the story.
