Warner Bros. may be updating its patented Nemesis System to allow players to form their own NPC factions and followers to help them in battle. Warner Bros-owned developer Monolith Productions first introduced the Nemesis System in 2014’s Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, which featured enemies that reacted to and remembered the player’s actions, resulting in more personal rivalries and relationships with Orc foes that all had unique names and behavioral patterns.
The Nemesis System would be expanded upon in the 2017 sequel Middle-earth: Shadow of War, with the player able to recruit their former foes to their cause or drive them into a deeper rivalry after besting them in combat. In 2021, Warner Bros. patented the Nemesis System, meaning that only games developed within its umbrella can use the popular mechanic pioneered by Monolith, such as the upcoming Wonder Woman game that was announced at The Game Awards back in 2021.
There might be a few new bells and whistles added to the Nemesis System when players see it next, as Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc. recently filed a patent that could signify some major updates to it. These updates seemingly include the ability to form positive relationships with NPCs, who can then be grouped into supporting factions and assist on missions. This could include infiltrating enemy hierarchies like spies, or rescuing the player from “certain death” if a fight becomes too difficult.
As mentioned before, Monolith Productions is currently working on a Wonder Woman game, and it has already been confirmed that the Nemesis System will be utilized in some capacity. It’s not exactly clear how Middle-earth: Shadow of War’s Nemesis System will translate to Wonder Woman, but fans remain hopeful that the scarcely used mechanic will be done justice in the upcoming DC-based video game.
Wonder Woman’s lore already lends itself well to the Nemesis System, and these reported updates could allow players to form alliances with Princess Diana’s fellow Themysciran warriors — who could then be sent to infiltrate humankind or arrive to help their champion in the nick of time during a particularly difficult battle. The possibilities of these updates to Warner Bros.’ proprietary Nemesis System are fascinating to say the least, and this newly filed patent could be a sign that the popular and immersive gameplay mechanic will be used more frequently after being dormant since 2017.
Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor is a third-person action and adventure RPG that follows a Ranger named Talion. He vies to seek revenge on the forces of Sauron for slaying his family and embarks on an open-world quest.

A Pokemon player has successfully managed to transfer the rare Mew from Space World 1997 into the modern-day Pokemon Scarlet and Violet games. The Pokemonuniverse contains many rare and legendary creatures, and the powerful Psychic feline Mew may very well be one of the most elusive of all. Despite playing a major role in the lore of the original Pokemon Red and Blue games, Mew could not be encountered or captured in the base game without glitches or datamining. This would be the case for every mainline Pokemon game until Generation 4’s Diamond and Pearl, which allowed players to import it from the Wii My Pokemon Ranch spin-off.
The long-delayed Star Wars: Hunters finally has a new release date. Back in 2021, Lucasfilm Games and developer Zynga announced Star Wars: Hunters, a squad-based arena shooter set after the fall of the Galactic Empire at the end of the original Star Wars movie trilogy. Players can choose from characters like Rieve, a dark-side-empowered warrior, a lightsaber-wielding droid called J-3DI, and even Utooni, a pair of junk-scavenging Jawas stacked together. Each of these characters has their own unique abilities, which will come in handy during frantic battles across several classic Star Wars locations.
Bethesda is now hoping to release new video games at a faster rate than it has in the past, especially with Fallout’s increased popularity. Bethesda is known for its massive RPG franchises like Fallout, The Elder Scrolls, and last year’s mega-hit Starfield. However, these titles can take an incredibly long time to develop, with Starfield suffering from several delays and being in production for nearly eight years before finally hitting stores in September.
Bandai Namco has spiled the beans on what's next for Tekken 8. Throughout the rest of 2024, players can expect a bunch of free updates, and Lidia has been confirmed as the game's second DLC character. She arrives at some point this summer.
Jennifer Hale, one of the talented voice actors behind Mass Effect’s legendary hero Commander Shepard, hasn’t heard from BioWare about possibly appearing in the upcoming Mass Effect 4. In classic RPG fashion, the original three Mass Effect games gave players the ability to fully customize their protagonist, down to selecting their gender. This choice resulted in Shepard being voiced by two different actors, with Mark Meer playing the male version and Jennifer Hale stepping into the role of the female Shepard.
Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2’s latest update adds a new playable character to the crossover fun: the fan-favorite Firebender Zuko from Avatar: The Last Airbender. Despite lukewarm reviews, 2021’s Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl performed well enough to warrant a sequel, which was released late last year. Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2 was considered an improvement over its predecessor, adding 11 new playable characters from across the beloved children’s cable channels' most popular shows.
Users looking to return a game on Steam may have a slightly more difficult time, as Valve recently updated the service’s refund policy to close a popular loophole involving “advanced access” titles. Steam is one of the biggest digital game retailers, offering customers a massive selection of PC titles that run the gamut from the latest triple-A releases to smaller indie fare. Of course, not everyone is going to be happy with their purchases, and Steam allows users to refund their games within 14 days of buying them, as long as they have only been played for less than two hours.
A new update patch has just been released for the PC version of Horizon Forbidden West that corrects some problems players have been having with the Nvidia Reflex On+Boost feature, among other things. The second Horizon game launched on PlayStation consoles back in 2022, earning mainly positive reviews for its stunning visuals and impressive vocal performances, even if some found the story to be lacking. Last month, Horizon Forbidden West became one of the latest Sony-published titles to make the jump to PC courtesy of Nixxes Software, the developer behind ports like Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart and the upcoming Ghost of Tsushima Director's Cut.
Steven Ogg, the actor who famously voiced Grand Theft Auto 5 protagonist Trevor Philips, recently stated that he recorded dialogue for a DLC campaign that was ultimately canceled. Grand Theft Auto 5 is considered to be one of the biggest and best video games ever made, and a large part of its success lies in its memorable cast of characters. This includes Trevor, the trigger-happy partner of fellow GTA 5 playable character Michael De Santa who makes his way to the crime-ridden city of Los Santos after discovering that his old friend is still alive following a bank heist gone wrong.

Of all the titular creatures in the Pokemon series, Eevee remains one of the most popular and unique due to its branching evolutionary paths. There are currently eight different options for trainers to evolve their Eevee into, which are determined by either exposing the cute Evolution Pokemon to a certain elemental stone or fulfilling a particular status condition.
A few of Qualcomm’s phone partners always make an appearance at the company’s annual Snapdragon Summit to reveal which of their devices will be powered by the next flagship chipset. Historically, Xiaomi has always been the first to announce its premium offering for next year, and according to a tipster, the Chinese manufacturer will retain those exclusive rights when it unveils its first Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 smartphone. However, showcasing a launch is one thing, and making it officially available to purchase is another.
